Hi All, Its been my experience thats theres two types of hydraulic riffles, which are just spray bars in the sluice box.One type shoots down from the top, while the other comes up from the bottom.I got the plans for mine from a miner in the Yukon, Its a Yukon mining thing.I have seen them set up as just a narrow grouping with just a couple of spray bars opposing each other. Then theres the Hoffmans riffle deck, which operates like a huge FLAT trommel.Basically theyre used for cleaning up gold specs buried in clay. The pressure from these riffles is extremely important, less than 10 pounds of pressure is used or you just start floating the gold and moving it along. The downward pressure and the upward pressure have to be ajustable independently of each other.Running that low of a pressure over such a long length of spray bar is really tricky, this is where Cow Tipping comes into play.If theres too much pressure or too little you just end up in the s&%t or with no gold caught just washed real clean.I have seen many such wash plants or hydraulic riffle systems come and go,some people swear by them which makes it odd that a working machine would be for sale and not operating somewhere. Its been my experience that an additional 6 to 10 feet of sluice box is needed to catch your gold after hitting it with spray bars and air to get it seperated and floating.Thats just my opinion, but i dont go cow tipping anymore either,ha ha Good Gold To All, later Dan
