Re: bigfoot

They don't exist, but in most states it is illegal to shoot one.
Catch 22.
I have a story, but I'll keep it to myself, rather than be humiliated or laughed at, as most seers of these creatures have done over the years.

I wear a 13, mygrainmining, as I was saying......

I wear a 14 wide boot, and the story is about the relative size of a foundation of a church as opposed to an outhouse.

OldAuHead,

I, for one, would really like to hear your bigfoot story. Since the advent of the internet, so many people have told their stories that I don't see much of anyone even bothering to take the time to ridicule any particular story anymore.

Anybody else willing? Come on, be brave!

Re: bigfoot

I can understand 'Mygrain's' reluctance to put himself on the line on a subject like this. In the past, anyone who dared to mention a sighting was painted with the same brush as any kook who claimed some outrageous thing, which had no basis in reality.

I can personally attest to the fact that 'Mygrain' is a sincere, intelligent, engaging and thoroughly sane person to visit with. I did so for well over an hour the other day on the phone. In that conversation I invited him to come to this forum - hopefully we all can learn from his extensive mining experiences as well as from other things – like this posting.

There are “controversial” topics that always encourage ‘cheap shots’ from those too uncomfortable with having the subject brought up. Those who whistle in the dark are just afraid of the dark --- so let’s just recognize that for what it is.

Let me pose one last thought here - If you, personally experienced something of a controversial nature – say a miraculous event – what would you do? Hide your head in the sand? Deny ever seeing it? Cringe from the ridicule of those who don’t know the first thing about what you know to be truth? Would you have the intestinal fortitude (you know what I would rather have said there) to ask if others have had similar things happen to them?

So, lets stop whistling in the dark here and share information and experiences.

As for me, no, I haven’t had a ‘Big Foot’ experience but I would like to hear if others have.

Joe

I'm not sure what Bigfoot has to do with Prospecting for Gold in Alaska. There have never been any credible accounts documented. Yes, you can watch the documentaries and you can "choose" to believe or not believe the accounts.

A couple of years ago, someone loaded stories of Bigfoot tales all over Google Earth. Supposedly there were encounters all over Alaska. The stories really seemed credible! They were apparently hoaxes.

People, for whatever reasons, may believe in ghosts or flying saucers. Just seems off-topic to me. Why not cover the subject under the trapping forum?

Re: bigfoot

Doesn't seem all that off topic to me.

Of course I spend quite a bit of time in remote areas while mining every year so I would have more interest in something that could directly impact my mining activities.

In addition, this isn't just a forum on Alaskan Gold Mining, since mining in other parts of the world are directly usable by all miners.

I certainly cherish Hoza, Steppe, Small d dredger and endless others from around the world who enriched my mining. without specifically zeroing in on Alaskan Gold Mining.

I tend to think (yes, just my thinking) that what helps or impacts my mining (mostly in Alaska) is more important than strict guidelines and constraints.

I may be wrong, but what firearms are best for bear protection does seem like something, as a miner, I should learn about.

The same for California dredging suspension postings. -- oops - lookie here:- something seems to have shown up on a "the same, but different" aspect to this topic:
http://bb.bbboy.net/alaskagoldforum-viewthread?forum=2&thread=1624

The same for European Gold panning championships.

In fact, the same even goes for Silver mining in Arizona information.

So,
what say others here?

 or

Re: bigfoot

When I first started reading this thread, I thought that it had nothing to do with mining... but now that I have read Joe's response, I have changed my mind. I personally don't believe in 'bigfoot', but I thoroughly enjoy the stories of such. And as Joe brought out - it would be good to know because even though I do not believe, I do not know for sure... I'd really hate to be abducted by a large hairy creature... (bear or otherwise). It would be better to be prepared for anything.

So please share your stories!

Re: bigfoot

Well I hope I didn't offend anyone as that was, of course, not my intention.

I will put my money where my mouth is and relate a very strange event that happened to me and was verified by my mother.

If anyone gets ridiculed, this story should do it. A true story, no less.

Not explicitly about bigfoot, but maybe so in a roundabout way.

About 1974 era, we were living in the Croisan hills southwest of Salem, Oregon. About 1 am., I looked out my bedroom window at the lighted area where our cars were parked. Well lighted because we caught 2 guys "admiring" my little sports car after dark.

So outside the window there was a flying--I call it a pencil. It was hovering in the nightlight glow along with a lot of flying insects. The thing was about 10-12" long and appeared about as thick as a thick pencil, its body seemed to have rotating areas of fluorescent lime green making it hard to focus on. No visible wings. It would kind of rock while in its stationary position like it had a stabilizing system. It would then dart about 2 feet very rapidly either sideways or up or down. It moved from about as close as 6 feet from me to about 20 feet away several times. It did not seem to show any predaceous intent to the (other) bugs. When it moved sideways, it appeared to elongate maybe double in length then shortened up. I questioned whether this effect may have been the strange lighting remaining briefly on a person's retinas. After several minutes, the little fellow left the area.

I woke my mother up so she could see it too and verify it. It really scared her. I told her my plans of getting the salmon net in the garage and attempting to sneak up on it and pin it to the ground. She refused to let me try. My mom passed away last March at 91 and, although she forgot a lot of things, that little "bug" she remembered vividly.

People on several radio programs have mentioned "rods." Whatever.

Maybe there will be a "flying pencil" coming to your campfire someday!

I brought up the image aumbre linked to and I couldn't make out a thing besides car headlights.

I find it amazing that so many of these photos are taken with home-made camera using hand-ground lenses that someone forgot to polish.

Come on. Blurry, grainy, lousy pictures that even a 8YO with a Kodak Brownie could beat any day.
-------------------
Are there animals we haven't discovered yet out there? Probably. They find new ones every year in other parts of the world that are less developed.

Sasquatch? That would be a humongous leap of faith for me. Don't think it is going to happen today and it doesn't look good for next week either.

Don't start whistling in the dark.

If you look very closely, There's a 4-wheeler approaching on the left (also blurred). What you perceive as bigfoot is the continuation of the road ahead halfway up the tree covered hill and turning to the left. You can distinctly see the road cut.

Re: bigfoot

Our specie is real prone to suggestibility. Mention that a cloud looks like Bugs Bunny and others will agree. Someone else might suggest a giant hamster battling Godzilla while riding a bicycle.

It is like those ghost shows with the audio tapes. "There it is, do you hear it? Doesn't it sound like, Get out of here?"

Ah, but all this does make life interesting. Besides, it was Chewbacca returning to his 4 wheeler. A lot of difference between a sasquatch and a Wookie. Would you trust a saquatch to pilot your starship while running from a Corellian Cruiser?

If life ain't fun, it's just work.

No, G WIZ, I surely don't see a wheeler, a ghost or even very much of anything. I wasn't there, and therefore I rely on the report of someone who was.

I don't need "Irrefutable Evidence" like a football review of a touchdown, rather the first hand, rational recounting of an encounter by the person actually there.

As much as smwon helped with that marginal photo, it's still just a marginal photo in my mind. To me, it neither proves nor disproves the encounter.

I don't want (or need) to hear an analysis of some fuzzy picture that shows very litle, rather than that, I hope to find an accurate recounting from an eye witness.

Have a nice day.

Joe

Well for what it's worth,
I hope that I never have an up close a personal encounter with a BIG FOOT, BIG PAW, OR BIG HOOF print that I have to deal with.
Anybody else is welcome to have my encounter.

By the way...--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope Santa puts something nice to play with under the tree for you this Christmas. Have a great time with your family and a Happy and Prosperous New Year too.

Re: bigfoot

G-day Mygrain.
:welcome: to AGF. And I can’t wait to hear u story.
I know if u get to know these guys, and this forums focus of just trying to help each other and like minded new guys, u will jump in too. Welcome again,
As too the request from the beautiful lady, and many others, related to, 2 big foots, and another, a real live happen to me, flash back to “, Alfred Hitchcock, The birds “. Also another dangerous Aussy fury animals, And why I sometimes think I must be a “ Kooky “ . ,
As to anyone laughing at anyone, I refer to Cubsqueals story, I know cubsqueal and I believe it happened to him and his Mum, my thoughts, it is unlikely to be aliens, definitely a phenomena, there is no laugh in that, just the truth and the facts,
So my experience was sorta with 2 big foots,
Many years ago, I was using a small hoe, in a dry creek loading trailers then dredging the trailers out in the river, 3 other guys, and ok gold,
ONE DAY, when I was in doing my shopping in town, i bumped into a friend, who was with a friend, who was about the same size as a “ big foot “, we were introduced, he was a local called “ Yogi “ overly gentle giant and real joker, tries to scare me with stories of Yowies in area of my camp, ( a Yowie being the Auss version of a Yeti, but not white, ) he was thinking I was New be in the area, anyway I finished the shopping and got back to the camp, put everything away, and raced to main camp to do my share of the final panning and cleaning, and split the gold up, few hours later I hit the sack, late that night I heard a car pull up a few mile down the road, and later heard footsteps in the gravel, one person, Big, and giggling, soon after, a hand shaped like claws scrapped down the thin cotton canvas of the tent wall a few feet above me, I already had run my hands down through the blanket and were under my stretcher camp bed, resting my left hand on the rabbit catcher that was jammed in the legs of my bed, right hand on my torch, as the claw stopped scrapping there was a growl, after which I cocked the rabbit catcher while pointing the torch at the claw, click clicky click, and the claw shuttered as if the circle of light on his hand was 2,ooo volts , I heard a scaredy grunt,
Next was the thundering sound of the first big foot pounding on the ground, echo’s could be heard bouncing off the nearby surrounding rock gully walls, then the other big foot hit the ground, and they both ran with surprising speed, back to the car, and quietly drove off,
That is the truth, I know they were big foots, and I went back to sleep,
Next morning I woke up with a fright, the noise of screaming black birds was so loud, it drowned out any and all other noises, I thought there must be hundreds attacking, (or at least forty,) I pictured in my mind, they were big, black and shiny big beaks, really big black long claws, I did not bother with the rabbit catcher thinking I would only get one, before they swarmed me, so I creep 15 paces to the front door of the tent, all the time thinking they want me, screaming and sketching for me to come out in the open, so they could peck me to bits,
I picked up a short handle shovel at the door, and thought my best chance was surprise and Fright, so I smacked the wall of the tent with the shovel followed by a loud blood curdling shout, as I reached down to lift the zipper and open the door, I heard only deafening sound of wings flapping, they all took off, I leaped out of the tent thinking I might get a few slow ones, but they were all gone, and not stopping,
I stood there wondering what had happened, and noticed my “ meat for week shopping “ was laying there half eaten and still half frozen, the thought of no meat for a week buckled my knees, I had forgot to put the meat away, a single bag,

As a foot note there we have known each other many years, I sold him my tow behind hoe too cheap, and we never mentioned that night, and I never had a big foots encounter again,
Sorry out of time, Anyone want to hear about other dangerous fury Auss Animale ??.
