Copper Nuggets

A little off Topic.... but I have too many Irons in the Fire to get to Alaska prospecting this Summer so I took a short trip to Upper Michigan to do some Copper Nugget Hunting in some tailing piles with the MXT. I live in Central Wisconsin. This is part of what I got. It was a good weekend.

I live down by Chicago, have always wanted to hunt for copper nuggets in Michigan.Email me at tvanwho@yahoo.com I also have an MXT and a TDi and a Lobo. Did you clean them with acid? Most copper nuggets I have seen are green?

The nuggets where mostly brown from being in the ground/tailings but some had the green colored ore attached to them.

Yes, I cleaned them up with muriatic acid. After cleaning you get that nice copper color.

Hi Wave, I think you can shine up that copper more. These nuggets were in rock so that you couldn't see hardly any copper. I smashed much of the rock off with a hammer, then bead blasted them, then tumbled them(they looked stained after the tumble), and bead blasted them one last time, Bob

Heh, heh....reminds me of some 15 yrs ago when we had some greenhorns from outta state visit us at the claims. Had this guy shoveling into a mini-sluice, and when he wan't looking I slipped a 24K gold-plated, 1" copper nugget into the riffles. You should have seen him dancing and hollering. After a minute or so I clued him in...
