Four 40S or one 160?

In regard to state mining claims of 40 or 160 acres I assume is you only need to make one discovery to claim 160 acres while you would have to have a seperate discovery on each of the 40 acre claims covering the same ground?

If the pay streak turned out to not to run across your whole 160 acres you could drop any 40 acre claims that didn't include the pay which would save money. Are there any other advantages or disadvantages to having four 40 acre claims that cover the same area that a 160 acre claim would cover?

One major advantage to having 4 individual claims vs. 1 MTRSC claim is with the individual claims you'd be able to drop any one of the four if you want. With the MTRSC claim it is a solid claim.. MTRSC Claims

At one time I weighed out the differences about converting my 4 claims to 1 MTRSC claim and decided against it.

Another benefit (in my county) is that 40 acre claims are not on the tax role and 40+ ones are. Go with the multiples of 40's.
