Forum Problems ( 13:26:05 WedAug 16 2017 )

I want to thank you all for your patience while our forums were down. I still have no idea why they were down because no one at the company that supplies this message board platform has been able to contact the owner for quite some time. It did seem to be a server malfunction since even their support forums were offline.

I emailed the owner yesterday but did not really expect anything from it since no one has been able to contact him.

I was to the point of looking for new message board platforms to get us back online, but am very glad to have our forums back in the same format we are used to.

Jim,

I was very concerned.

I think I speak for many other members, that consider THIS forum to be a special place.

Thanks, good to be back. When you do something like this for sixteen years, it becomes a part of your life. I think Leonard can identify with this.

Yes Jim I was a member on the old board before this one, and we met at the 1st crow creek gold show, I found tokens at the metal detector hunt there and won a Keene sluice box, I would have never thought back then that I would later have a 50,000 lb floating wash plant !

Yes I am Dick. I could probably go on living without these forums, but they have been a large part of my life for many years.

The most troublesome part was losing all of the information from sixteen years of operation. I would love the be able to download the whole thing in case I ever had to switch board platforms, but I am told that each board platform is different as far as the actual coding. So another board platform would not be able to read the coding for this one. Too bad.

Yes, I remember Dan and when I do, I miss Alaska. But I do have to admit that I have found a lot more gold here than I ever did in Alaska.

But now with my declining health and the mining bans, this place is a lot less appealing than Alaska. But the reality is that Alaska is a young man's game, I would not be able to access the places that I could when I was younger.

Jim,

You are welcome to come up and visit Ophir.

Climb on Alaska Airlines, enjoy a snack or two. Land in Anchorage and fly out to Takotna the next day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) on Alaska Air Transit.

A short drive to the mine and you can wade right in!

Thank you for the invite Chuck. But I'll just have to ask for a rain check until I get a bit younger...

Jim,

I understand. We're all getting there!

I have an idea...

A "Virtual Reality Wet suit"!

Put on the wet suit, pump warm water through it... Put on the VR Goggles that show an image of being underwater somewhere on the Yuba with nuggets everywhere! You can switch to the Forty Mile or Bering Sea or anywhere else.

You have headphones that provide the sound of the suction dredge running and the jingle of GOLD nuggets rolling through the nozzle!

I'm already preparing for the day I go to a nursing home.

Imagine a nursing home for suction dredgers that is equipped with Virtual Reality wet suits!

That sounds great!

My defining moment was when I bought a hew wet suit. It took me 20 minutes to get it on and I was wore out. I had to rest before I took it off. I bundled it up and gave it to my ex-dredging buddy. 6 months later I sold my dredge. I really miss dredging but I had a great run while it lasted. I met a lot of great people.

Now it's time to spend my days with my wife trying to make up for all the time I was away from her when I was dredging. We've developed new hobbies that we can do together.

Only SISSIES wear Wet Suits;

Only Sissies wear wet suits anyway!

A person could set up a Wading Pool in the back yard with a heater.

Rig up a 2 inch suction dredge with a Hooka pump.

Throw in a few sacks of clean sand and a little bit of that GOLD sittin' on the shelf.

Put on your Hooka mask, swim shorts and flippers and climb in!

I have a few more ideas...
