camping

sorry guys, when I try to search this forum I never get any results. I couldn't find a link on DNR's site either.... so the question is:

When a person holds the right to an AK state mining claim, what are the rules regarding camping on said claim while working it?... time limits?... is movement of camp required? thanks.

This link should answer most of your questions: http://dnr.alaska.gov/mlw/factsht/gen_allow_use.pdf

The way I read it is that if you don't have any other permission from the state then you can only set up a camp/tent for 14 days prior to relocating it.

Other prospectors please comment if I am reading this info sheet wrong. Thanks.

No problem with setting up a camp. Just remove at the end of the season. There are allowances for security of equipment stored on the claim, but you oughta get a permit for the off-season use under the approved mining plan of operation, ie. file the paperwork.

The 14 day limit is for recreational use. You gotta remove and relocate a minimum of 2 miles. Doesn't apply to mining claims.

Thanks for the info. It only makes sense that you can set up camp for the mining season.

I had previously read that info in the link you provided but I somehow overlooked that part. Tooooo much dredging. Must have gotten water on the brain.... LOL

That is what I love about this forum. Lots of good feedback.

Thanks - Kurt
