Re: this is not a joke, bigfoot? ( 23:53:50 SatAug 30 2008 )

I have 2 weeks off in Sept., and I'm heading out to the same spot I was at when whatever happen a few years back. (Posted in this subject). My wife isn't to happy with me; but, I want to know if I'll see or hear anything. If nothing else, I'll enjoy the time away from everyone.

Ace I've seen tracks do wierd things. Like wet footprint in the sand packs down and gets covered with dry sand. Wind comes up and blows dry sand away and a fresh print re-appears.

As for big-foot he's cruising around in his flying saucer.

Didn't get to go, but maybe next month. If only I didn't have anything else to do.

A good friend of mine left today to go check this out since he thinks I'm full of it, I guess it's possible I imagined it. He'll be gone until the first week of May. It really doesn't matter to me with what he comes up with; but, he's intrigued with the idea.

A few years ago, a friend of mine and his dad were riding their ATV's on logging roads outside of Ketchikan. I don't recall the name of these roads, but I know they give jeep tours on them now. Anyways, they stopped in a random spot on the road and got out the video camera and zoomed in on a valley next to them. They zoomed the camera in on the valley and recorded a bit, and then turned it off and continued on their trip.

Once they got back to town, my friend and I watched the footage from their trip. Just as the footage of the valley they recorded ended, I said "Wait...what was that!?!?". We rewound the tape and watched the clip of the valley over and over again. In the last 8 seconds of the clip or so, in the back of the valley you can see something large and black standing up and somewhat hunched over, hopping around at the top of the valley. Then it hops down a bit and leaps onto a tree branch and swings---then the clip ends.

I know to most all of you (and probably myself, had I not seen the video) doubt the validity of this story. However, from the way that this animal was moving, I can be pretty certain it was not a Brown or Black Bear, or Wolverine. It was large, black, and seemed to be on 2 feet. If I had to pick an animal to relate it to, as clich'e as it sounds I would have to say a large Ape. My friend has the video somewhere in his storage, I ask him to spend some time finding it, so I guess we'll wait and see if it turns up.

I know it wasn't a bear...are there even Black Bears around Ketchikan? This deffinitly made me a believer in 'Bigfoot'.

During the winter of 76-77 I was trapping marten in the Cascade Mountains of Washington. We had an unusual warm spell the end of December, melting almost all the snow in the mountains. This made for easy marten trapping as I could now drive the logging roads that I had been snowshoeing up. Anyway, the area I was trapping was in big old growth timber, the easiest way to move through a lot of the area was to walk on blown down timber jumping from log to log. As I was walking along a large log and approached the root wad I jumped down off the log into a remnant patch of snow maybe a little bigger that 12 feet across. Just as my foot was about to land I saw a large human type of foot print right where I was coming down. The beast that made it had been walking along the log in the same manner as I had been, and jumped off in the same spot. There were three footprints across the snow patch. Each print was about two inches longer than my Herman Survivor boots. I had a camera with me, so I took a picture of the tracks with my hatchet laying along side for scale. I saw the photo somewhere in my pictures within the last ten years. I haven't shown it to too many people, and this is the first time I've ever documented the story. For what it's worth.

Friend was suppossed to be back a week or so ago, and still no word on his vacation seeking the Big One. Nothing new for him since he's retired and answers to no one. I talked to his brother yesterday and he's not concerned.

Well took almost 2 years for back to heal up. Did do a work season and did get a caribou. The back took some wind out of my sails. I still wish to see any more reports or info of the Hairyman. I have met several interior Natives from villages along the Yukon who have told me thier seeing him/her. The hoaxers have been the media and again making it a joke. Where I grew up I have been told by the Villagers that the Hairyman has return to the area and am planning a trip this late summer and fall. Again thank you for your comments and info.

it's always interesting to read this kind of stuff even if i don't believe. but on the first page of this thread i took particular note of the story that jim posted about the green berets. ace and a few others focused on the description of the terrain. they know the area way better than i ever will so i'd suspect they're right. but i had my doubts about the story from the onset...Wainwright A.F. Base??? have things changed? isn't it still Ft. Wainwright named for the ARMY general of the same name? i lived there from '61 to '63, right at the transition from Ladd A.F. Base to Ft. Wainwright. (dad was army). point being (and i'm sure any current or ex military would back this up) a green beret would never make that kind of error in any report. was this guy even military? was he even in the fairbanks area. even the locals to fairbanks know the name of the fort next door. it's hard to believe a story when so much is eschew.

Four years ago during a deep heavy winter one came out of a little creek it had been walking up (on the shallow watery streambed)climbed up and out into the adjoining 8' of snow that blanketed the mountain ranch. It then walked by a old log garage-shed right under the sodium light on a pole next to the garage. leaned on a snow pile and stared up the little stream valley and turned his head from side to side as if listening to something up the gulch. Snapped two pic's with a cell phone camera looking out the window over the kitchen sink. It then went back to the creek and proceeded up the the valley. Hairy all over, human looking nose, you can see the muscle tone under the hair, looks like a very hairy huge neandrothol cave man. Won't tell where or show pic's, don't want media or the nuts that follow them on this in anyway. It's never botherd me or anyone I know in this area. I think it used the stream instead of walking in the 8' of snow and i think they migrate thru here. Odd thing is it was heading north in the dead middle of winter into an area with 12'to 25' of snow over alittle pass into montana's clark fork river valley.

NO pic will ever be posted on the net. In person...maybe a long look...then back to the safe.

They do exist.

There are two active researchers in Alaska who will take a serious interest in your story, I am one. I'm a retired biologist who has seen enough to know we haven't closed the book. I live in Ketchikan but grew up where the snow is crunchy and lasts six months. I agree with some of the reservations regarding "north of the Brooks Range" "big" trees but it might have been a slip..?south of..?
I look at hair microscopically and if you have any hairs you would like examined or story to share, just contact me.DNA resarch results are pending on a large number of hair samples across North America that should get published spring, 2012.

I have never heard of a bigfoot in Alaska but i think people in remote areas are always talking about them.I used to have a penfriend in Siberia and the people in the area he lived were adamant that there were such things there. My friend said that one evening he was collecting sticks in a forest and his dog suddenly started growling, and he thought he saw a large shape moving through the trees, but he couldnt make out what it was,i guess it could have been an elk,but who knows.
