Hi, I'm new to the board... living in the US now but moving to Melbourne | |
Hello all! I'm very excited about my move, probably next summer in June/July. I currently live near Washington DC and will be moving to Melbourne with my sweetie and my children. I have 4 and I'm expecting number 5 in April! I'd LOVE to make new friends in and around Melbourne so I'll know a few people when I move. Look forward to hearing from you! Beth

First of all you'll just love Oz! What kind of weather are you used to in Washington? Our Summers can be quite hot! Is your fiance an Aussie? What ages are your children? Do you know what gender your baby is? You should check out the mums to be section, one other member, Lisselle (Felicity) is due to have her bub at the beginning of March I hope you're having an enjoyable pregnancy. Look forward to hearing more about you. If you have any problems with our lingo then just ask. We have a Canadian member (Daisey) who thought we were all aliens until we explained what a few things meant but we've turned her into an Aussie now. Mwuhahahahaha!

Hello! Thanks so much for the reply, I haven't been able to visit the board for the last few days, so I'll try to catch up!!! Yes, my fiance is an Aussie, raised in Bendigo but moved to Melbourne after University for work. (So I know a little Aussie speak, although he doesn't use much slang!) The weather in Dc goes from below freezing in winter, with snow and ice and such, to close to 100 degrees in summer (which I'm guessing is about 40 degrees celcius, I still haven't learned the conversion!) My other children are 14 and 15 year old boys, an 11 year old daughter, and I also have a 6 year old daughter who will be staying here with her dad. My the baby on the way is my fiance's first child. All his family are in Australia, mostly Bendigo but his dad and stepmum are in Tas. I am very excited! I know there are plenty of similarities, but I think life in Australia is probably less hectic and more enjoyable. People here are mostly nice, but too caught up with work and 'keeping up with the Jones'. Anyway, thanks for your reply, I am very excited to get to know people! Any suggestions on nicer areas of Melbourne, good schools and all? Thanks again!

Hi Angie! Thanks for the reply. I tried to answer most of the questions, but I'd love some advice on the nicer areas of Melbourne. My sweetie knows some of the good neighborhoods, but he's been living here for over 5 years, so I'm sure some things have changed! I am VERY excited about the move, mostly because I'llbe closer to his family and our baby will be able to see his grandparents all the time, but if I could have chosen any country to live in it still would have been Australia! An English speaking country with friendly people and plenty of sunshine is right up my alley!!! Thanks for the reply, great to hear from everyone!
