Washing machines..

What kind of washing machine do you own, how old is it & how long have you had it for?

We have a Hoover 6kg washer & we bought it brand new about 6-7 years ago I think. I could swear it is programmed to cark it every 12mths :vmad:
This time all the cycles are working but when it's time to fill up with water...the water just dribbles out :vmad: So I have to get the hose from out the back & manually fill it up for the wash & rinse cycles....I've had a few close calls where I've nearly forgotten about it but just caught it in time
My dad has a washing machine that is older than I am & it has just died & he never had any problems with it except for little things that he was able to fix himself. The old saying "they don't make things like they used to" is so true!
I'll have to find out what brand his is...
No more Hoover washers for me!
So do you guys have reliable washers? :sigh:

Re: Washing machines..

I had a brand new frontloader a couple of years ago, only got to use it about 2 or so months cos we had a house fire where we lost everything we owned, it was the best washing maching ever... such a good clean and sooo gentle.

After the fire we were given a Kanbrook twin tub, we have been using it since the fire and it has never broken down on us, it's quite old but it does the job :sigh:

recently my brother gave us a Hoover elite 920, again... it's an oldie but like you said Linda... they dont make things like they used to it seems to run fine.
So I use the hoover toploader for big washes and now only use the twin tub for things that need a little soak or if I only have a few things to wash.

I had a hoover 7kg for 10 years and it broke down a couple of times during that time but we were fortunate that we had an extended warranty so both times it got fixed for nothing - but then it died and now I have a Whirlpool 8kg commercial one and its fantastic. I wash my blankets etc in it and I have no problems.

Re: Washing machines..

My washing machine didn't break down for the first time until just after the warranty had expired..funny how it always works out like that :vmad:
I was thinking that the next time we get a washer that I ould get a front loader but then thought the amount of times I open mine up & chuck in something else I find it wouldn't be practicle for me

Re: Washing machines..

I had a simpson top loader for about 8yrs which we bought brand new, it died about 6mths ago. We went out and bought a secondhand Hoover front loader, its the best washer i've ever had, barely uses any water and it cleans sooooooo well, you really notice the difference. I found with my old top loader i had to buy the expensive good detergent to get things clean, but with the front loader i find that i can use cheap stuff as well and it still cleans perfectly, you only need to use half a scoop of detergent in 1 load. :thumb:

Do the front loaders hold as much washing? They always look so much smaller for some reason..

I have heard that front loaders are good, too.

My 12yr old KleenMaid died about 2yrs ago & I've had a LG electronic one ever since. So far, so good but they don't make anything to last these days so I'll probably be up for another one in a few years time. :sigh:

Re: Washing machines..

Well the old top loader i had was a 4.5kg washer and our front loader is about the same i think, but i find i can put more in this one than the old one because of the way it washes, you would hafta see one in action to know what i mean:think:
