Re: Crags spotted in travels

divide the number of people interested by the walk in by meters then subtract this number from population of scone and divide it again by the number of cafe's within walking distance of this new "hyper crag"
you will then have the answer as to how many people have been up their to "scout" them out.

you seriously need to get some tips and pointers in the finer arts of propoganda and promotion off the southern highlands marketing juganought, captained by captain Australia himself!!
dude.

Dod, you said "divide it again by the number of cafe's within walking distance of this new "hyper crag"
you will then have the answer as to how many people have been up their to "scout" them out."

People who find crags don't go to cafes they go to McDonalds and then the pub. Whats the pub in Scone like?

Use the Six viewer on the lands site... you can overlay topo maps on it as well as get cadastre info

https://six.maps.nsw.gov.au/wps/portal/

Click on the "get the Six Viewer" link.

Has any one climbed on the cliffs around the Kiama Leisure Centre?

You get glimpse of them as you pass on the way to Nowra.

Are they the quarried park south of Kiama turn off going up the hill towards the big bends? If so then yes. 15 to 20 years ago. Wrote it off as shit. BUT.... These things are always worth a look again. From memory we looked at it pre boulder pad days and it was that awkward to high to boulder to small to rope up hieght. Take a pad, if what I'm talking about is what you are talking about.

I think we're talking about the same place.
I have been looking at it for ages as I drove past so I finally slowed down to have a look. It is an old quarry and there's alot of signs saying it dangerous and stay away etc.

The rock looks like it's basalt? It doesn't look classic, I'm more interested in it to climb something a bit different to the usual sandstone, but there seemed to be a couple of ok lines there.

i have done a bit of exploring and climbing in that area near scone when lived in muswellbrook. is plenty of good rock around there but most of it is private property or surrounded by it so hard to get to it.

Re: Crags spotted in travels

The pic in the first post looks like Wingen Maid Reserve (W side of highway?) or maybe part of Toowarri NP. I've often thought of going in to have a look at a few spots, particularly Castle Rock, but it's surrounded 360 deg by private property (farms).

The 2004 NPWS management plan for Toowarri NP/Wingen Maid/Cedar Brush mentions that there is no public access except for one area of Toowarri (which I don't thing has anything worthwhile) and no plan to provide any more access. So it's either go onto someone's property or take a very long walk from the public access. For what its worth, the management plan also mentions that "Rock climbing and abseiling will not be permitted in Towarri National Park or in Wingen Maid or Cedar Brush Nature Reserves due to access constraints and potentially unsafe conditions."

We went for a kayak from Berowra down to Crafty's yesterday. There seemed to be endless crags overlooking the water, above the lower slopes. Have any of these been checked out ?

Re: Crags spotted in travels

Driving back from Merimbula yesterday I saw what looked like 20-30m granite cliffs on a hill on the eastern side of the highway near Central Tilba.

No photos from me, but from searches on the net it looks like it could have been Little Dromedary (http://www.digital-photo.com.au/v/Landscapes/South+Coast/central_tilba/Mount-Little-Dromedary-Najanuga_MG_7968.jpg.html).

Anyone been exploring down that way?

The picture of Tilba looks nice. Is it on private property?

I'm sure lots of people have checked out all the rock around Narrabeen.
