Hi Folks! Are there any extensive bouldering areas in the Blueys? Somewhere like the Balkans or the Fear Factory? Somewhere in the shade?

i don't know of any great areas but i have checked out:
* medlow bath -- metioned in the blues guide 3rd edition -- sharp, sissy-like, more for training than doing problems * uberland near lithgow. http://www.climbing.com.au/news/news.php?page=news_uber_231102.htm didn't do much for me but perhaps that's because i can't crank hard |

A few areas I know of..... at the base of Zap crag is a fairly extensive area a little like Sissy crag, and quite shady, but lots of harder problems.
If you go to Mt. York, and follow the track down behind the toilets, after a hundred metres or so you will come to a clearing surrounded by large and small boulders. Garth and Matt Brooks and Simon Wilson have developed a bunch of problems there.....good and pretty shady. Really good bouldering at Tarana.... not on the hill itself, but on boulders at the base of the hill. Drive a couple of hundred metres past the carpark, then walk through the bush (uphill) across a gully to an open area filled with loads of Granite boulders. Uberland I can vouch for being pretty crap! There are some good problems, but the rock in general is really chossy, and most of the problems will only last a few ascents, until all the holds break off! Garth and friends are apparently planning a guide to bouldering in the mtns and areas.... don't know if that's just a pipe dream or real plans. They have found heaps of bouldering in the mountains. I heard that Garth did a V14 at one of his new granite areas recently! |

Apparently there's also a spot if you drive through Mt Vic on the Gt Western down Victoria pass to the flats below. A few hundred metres down there there's some good boulders on the right I hear. I found some info somewhere on the net but I've forgotten everything about it I'm afraid. MAybe it was called cicada rock or something? Seemed alright from the discription. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Hey Chris. I think I've climbed with you a few times around Sydney. Are you from Brisbane or something? I think I saw you at Baronia point once with a bunch oif your friends, and I filmed you bouldering at CLimb Fit once as well. But I could be talking to totally the wrong person and you think I'm a freak. I understand completely.
