mirrorball rap anchor

4 changes:-
1)The top anchor (old backed up tree) has been replaced by an anchor on the ledge below, with a rope to aid the scramble down. When I get out there again I'll remove the incompetent mess of tape etc (if you're going to back something up, it should make it safer!).
2) In the notch between the pinnacle and the mainland at the second abseil, If it's windy use the "downwind" anchor (if the wind's coming from the left, use the right anchor) to stop the rope being blown into the chimney when you pull it down.
3) The useless anchor above Weselberger has been extended to the edge (an could do with a new 5m piece of static rope) and a ring added there so your rope won't jamb. 45m rap to ledge 10m up pitch 2.
4) On this ledge is a double U/ring anchor. 45m rap to ground (I think). Check length on the way down.

Re: mirrorball rap anchor

4 changes. The anchor atop Mirroball was altered to reduce mess and wear on the ledge (if the Parks Service comes by), and to allow easier pulling down (I hope). The Weaselberger/Bergermeister rap is faster than the Mirrorball rap and should reduce traffic jambs:-
Caveat- The glue for all anchors has set, but I haven't tested these yet.

Mikl, your timing is perfect... Been hoping to get out to BBB. A couple of questions though... I have a 60 & a 46 m rope- will this get me down the mirrorball raps. And, if it all goes pear shaped, how long is the walk out and what's the walk out route.

Thanks for the work you put in on this stuff... It really is appreciated by the anonymous weekend warriors like myself!

Re: mirrorball rap anchor

Mirrorball raps are 42m and 45m
Weaselberger raps are 45m and 45m (I'm pretty sure). Just have the 60m rope threaded through the anchors on the bottom rap (with the ends tied off) and you can pull more rope through if you need it.

Re: mirrorball rap anchor

And the walk out..
Simplest to walk out straight down to the river, turn right (west) and head up the river for 200m or so and up the Pierces pass track.
Less effort to walk left (facing the cliff) under Mirrorball and Samarkand, drop down 100m under Wall's Lookdown and thenup to the cliff base to catch the BASE jumper's track and up Pierece's Pass
Either way is an hour
