Re: The Cathedral

this place is the El Capitan of the shire!!

wow!, what a collection of routes:

we now have:

1) blue bell Glenn

2) Porters Rainbow pass

3) El Cathedral

4) Thompsons Bangor Point
(descent gully walls)

and when lord bundy finally finishes the long invisaged "operation shire freedom" we will also have

5) Point Perpendicular to Cronulla

why live out of the shire??

Re: The Cathedral

Possible for "Get Out of Town" to get some new bolts and some lower-offs. Have contributed some to the fund.

Re: The Cathedral

the fixed hanger down low, and the carrots and fixed hanger up the top have been replaced with U's. i removed the old bolts. forgot about the lower off's, sorry. if anyone is wants to climb there on sunday with me, i'll go back and finish it then.

while i was at the carpark to the new walk down i met the neighbours whose house you park in front of. not only are they totally cool with people parking there, they seemed quite enthusiastic about the place and stoked people are going down there and enjoying the place as much as they do.

Re: The Cathedral

havent quite finished it yet, i ran into a few problems last time i tried to go back there. my little boy had got into my box of bolting stuff and spread it around the house.
in the ensuing chaos i found everything but the hole brush, then got busted by the old lady stealing the baby bottle brush, and dropped a full tube of glue, which landed on the cap and smashed.
by the time i finished cleaning the glue off the carpet it was time to go to work.
anyway i'm picking some more glue up this morning, and the plan is to have it all finished by this arvo.....

Re: The Cathedral

"Get out of Town" now has lower offs added.

"Jaded Cravings" is now all all rebolted with lower offs.

"The Dynamic Duo" also has now bolts and lower offs.

Thanks to SteveM and Steve (climbinganchors.com) for their kind donations.

Thanks to everyone else as well who donated to fixing up this crag: Greg (Simple), Greg(Buger), JJDisco, Some random climbers, SteveM and SteveH, Rod Wills, and me..

With tomorrows (Tues) hot temps it might be the ideal after work ticking location. I walked down the new access the other day - nice and EZ now with a good path, just follow the red and white tags. City: Min: 19 Max: 33

Re: The Cathedral

I always found the original walk in, along the river, really plaesant.

Does it really take half an hour? I haven't been there since around 98 , but I didn't think it took that long.

Ozone Action is a good climb. Fixing the bolts is a good idea. A lot of those old bolts were very old and sus.

What's the climb mentioned as possibly the hardest trad climb in the state? Is it the seam, over on the right hand slabs, near Glacis?

Re: The Cathedral

Yeah, I reckon it might take about 1/2 hour. The only good thing about the old walk is you come out at the RSL and the beers taste so good after the walk and the climbing....

Re: The Cathedral

I haven't been there for ages. Is Hercules the one that finished at a big horizontal break, and then had old carrots above it over a dirty bulge to the top? The climbing above it look good but it was really dirty and the carrots scared me.

New stuff on the slabs would be cool.
I'll get the unemployed and twitchy Neil Monteath bolting dynamo down there to put as all to shame.

Re: The Cathedral

I popped down to the Cathedral today. What a weird place. Very unique for NSW. I felt like I was at Buffalo... If anyone wants to donate glue and bolts I'm happy to rebolt anything! My finances are somewhat thin at the moment...
