Re: Bondi main wall

Are you going to sort the belay out on Arapiles? If I remember rightly, it was el dodgo.

Bondi would be a much better crag with the addition of big stainless steel rings.

I don't often say stuff like that.

Yep, the addition of lots of stainless steel might even be enough to tempt certain members of Team Shire away from their over-bolted micro-crags.

Although, I doubt it.

No way dude. Team Shire members are only allowed to climb in certain areas, and Sydney Sea Cliffs is not one of them.

Believe it or not you would like a non manky carroted Bondi. Just annex Bondi for a while a bit like the Bra when it suits.

Diamond Bay is alright Bundy and now is the time of year, the on shore spooge makes it a hateful place in summer. The wall in your photo at last visit had some glue in carrots so you wont die. The right arete acute what is also a fine route.

robolting 2 Grand MalBondi main wall

WelI, in the rain on the weekend I rebolted pitch 1 of Grand Mal, it looks about 24 -ish, but is wet at the moment, looks quite a good one, I hope to rebolt (retro) all the things on the wall. Scramble up and left to cave and walk across to first ring. Or do the old V6 start which is pretty intense. Follow the rings to a lower off. The old pitch 2 looks hard also.

High on the route (after all the hard stuff ) is the bit Greg Child and I spent days falling off and adding bolts to, it looks easy now. I must get a photo of it, it's a 45 degrees ramp with 6 botls in 4m.

At the base was an old pack with wrecked (salt water and zips) GTX gear and Blue mountaineering boots. It my have been stoled and dumped there

To quote Peter Monks Sydney guide; 'So what's the attraction of climbing in Sydney? To me the essence of Sydney climbing is its convenience.'

With that in mind, I think parts of Diamond Bay are good. Pretty much just the face in the photo. It's great. The other stuff, well, mikl is pretty much it's mother, so yeah, what he said. 'pumpy, sandy, scary choss.'

Well - firstly don't bother going to Bondi till winter or within a week of rain (it's generally too sweaty in summer) but Grand Mal is rebolted and fun 23 now. I also rebolted "Plumbers Mate" all except 1 bolt (a good stainless carrot which needs a bracket), but I shoudl get around to replacing that in the next week or so.

They are both 25m high and pumpy.
have fun

Added final bolts on Plumber's mate, and replaced bolt on Arapiles and added lower off for this climb and the one next to it.

Some misguided person had left chalk on Plumber's Mate, don't bother climbing here in summer, unbeleiably greasy

Re: robolting 2 Grand MalBondi main wall

I've done a bit of rebolting work out at Bondi main cliff recently. Plunging Grandmas (25/26) now has 7 bolts, a lower-off and no more halfway belay on the ledge. On the left side Smut (20?!) got rebolted via my new right hand variant Daylight Shaving (22 - same crux move!). Starts up by crap campussing through a chossy roof but gets better, easier and nicer the higher you climb, a bit like everything on this wall. Might be funner just to pull on the first bolt. 7 bolts and a lower-off. Get in before it gets too stinky. I've whacked up a bit of revised topo guide on the ACA.
