So I've been pondering and pondering a background for my marines. I like both the Salimanders and Imperial fists, but they don't have generic un-named later foundings that I can pounce on according to most fluff. I wanted my marines to have a serious hate on for chaos, so here's what I've come up with:
An Imperial Fists battlegroup is pursuing a Renegade splinter fleet after the seige of terra towards the Eye. En route, the splinter fleet attacks an outpost for supplies. At the time, a small Salimander battlegroup is docked in orbit, resupplying while they're hunting renegades, seeking revenge for Vulkan's (attempted?) murder. The renegades cathc them by surprise and cripple the Salimander fleet, causing the flagship strike cruiser's reactor to overload. In a daring rescue, the Captain of the Fists' battlegroup saves nearly all the Salimanders, but in the attempt, sacrifices himself. With his dying breath, he pledges his warriors to the Salimander commander, so long as they continue to seek vengeance. He accepts his new brothers with open arms and forms toghether the remenants of the fleet and continues chasing the renegades all the way into the very edge of the Eye, cutting themselves off from the rest of the galaxy. By the time they exact their vengance and regain contact with Terra, the Second founding has begun. The Salimander commander takes his forces, already bonded by the fires of battle, and officially forms them into a new chapter, blending the colours of the Salimanders with the heraldry of the fists. I'm still trying to come up with a name, but I was leaning towards Fists of Vengeance, or Fists of Vulkan. Anything obviously wrong with my idea?

Sounds good, although were the nids even in this galaxy shortly after the seige of terra? I thought the main force "ala codex nids" didnt show up until much later. Also Vulken wouldn't have have been around would he? Unless fluff wise he is another eldard.

When I say renegade splinter fleet, I mean a fleet of renegades that splintered off of the main force retreating to the Eye after the seige, nothing to do with nids.
Most of the Vulkan fluff I've seen appears to be purposefully vague about his death. They don't really state that he's deda, merely fallen in battle and I've yet to find references to where his remains are entombed. Officially, he's MIA it would seem.
