Fighting on Force Primus had been brutal, and had taken it's toll on the Angels of Dark Redemption under Azalin's command. Extended conflicts against a sizeable Ork Warband, a brief encounter with the Eldar xenos, and battle with the Black Legion Chaos traitor marines outside of Vulcanis had resulted in many losses with little to show in exchance for the Angels' sacrifices.
Worst still, out of desperation Azalin had been forced to initiate an attack against their Blood Angel bretheren in a bid to obtain much needed supplies. The operation had failed, and Azalin had no alternative but to order a fighting retreat back to the last stronghold held by the Angels of Dark Redemption in the Vulcanis region, a top secret communication bunker command center. But the forces of Chaos are clever and vengeful, and were watchful of the wounded Angels limping back seeking refuge near the Chaos controlled Hive Vulcanis. After the loss of the battle for the Eldar warpgate to the Black Legion weeks ago, the Angels had no choice but to call down an orbital strike on the warpgate from the strike cruiser Raven's Claw circling in the atmosphere above. The warpgate destroyed, neither side benefits. These orbital communication were traced back to the planet's surface, and the forces of Chaos were able to triangulate the location of the secret communications bunker. The storm was brewing, the forces rallied and Chaos marched against the last of the Angels in Vulcanis...

Librarian Spargus walked the battlefield, and tried to force back the fog of dispair. The taint of the daemon was ripe all over the battlefield. The wreckage of the comms bunker and the bodies of his battle brothers were all touched by the spawn of Chaos.
Spargus had questioned many of the wounded Angels, and by all accounts the battle was swift and bloody. Interrogator-Chaplain Azalin had ordered the last of the battleforce to defensive positions at 09:00, and within 30 minutes the Astares were under attack. The warning alarms were raised as the hulking form of a Deamon Lord with a retuinue of Obliterators appeared in the forest to the west. As they advanced, all around them dozens of Chaos marines stepped from the shadows and raced towards the Angels' fortified position. The entire west flank was under attack simultaniously as the thin back line advanced on the outnumbered defenders. TAGA deployed a huge horde of infiltrating CSM. We had to iron out a few rules before the start of the game. The scenario we played had an poorly worded amendment to the Infiltrate rule, and we used an interpretation different to that which Mark had expected, so he was without transports. He was a good sportsman about it, and accepted it as a challenge rather than dealing with it in a negative way. High Command on the strike cruiser Raven's Claw in orbit knew there was trouble on the planet's surface when the calls for orbital strikes on the comms bunker coordinates were called in. On the surface, as the barrages from orbit landed, the Devastators and Tactical squads added to the storm of fire, cutting down a handfull of traitor Marines. The losses went un-noticed and the Chaos advance continued. They closed and poured flamers, melta guns and bolt pistols into the defenders. Many of the unfortunate defenders fell with their heavy weapons in their hand, and the Angels' firebase was severely weakened. Azalin looked out on the closing enemy, fired up his jump pack and charged forward to lead from the front. He struck hard into one end of the line of attacking CSMs, and the supporting squad of Vet Sgt Strahd's Assault Marine reinforcements hit the other. The assault was an ovewhelming success, and the Traitor casualties were heavy. ... then the unwelcome smell of ozone filled the air, and Azalin knew the worst was still to come. The Chaos champion he stood toe-to-toe with just seconds before had burst apart, and from within a monstosotiy grew to tower over the Interrrogator-Chaplain. A greater daemon. A Keeper of Secrets. Old as time itself. It looked down on Azalin as predator on prey. The army chapions traded blows and neither won the advantage early And from wherever in the warp came the Keeper, Daemonettes followed. Where the Keeper had been met with a stalemate, the Daemonettes masacred their enemy, cutting through power armor like it was ornamental silks, eliminating Vet Sgt Strahd's assault unit. The press was on, and the situation was desperate for the Angels of Dark Redemption. Azalin stood against the Keeper of Secrets, cutting another wound into it's unholy flesh, but the Daemon was too strong and struck down the heroic Interrogator-Chaplain. The Daemon Lord was pleased, and joined the fray assaulting the nearest tactical squad, slaying all those within his reach. Only to be counter charged by Vet Sarget Harkon leading his squad of scouts against the Deamon Lord. Harkon tore huge gouts of flesh from the aboration with his powerfist. Alas, the beast was too great a match, and with the help of the wounded Keeper all the remaining marines were slain in the name of Slaanesh. Librarian Spargus left the battlefield on the last Thunderhawk. The communications bunker lay in ruins. The codes and technology were of no use to the Traitor marines, so to keep it out of Imperial hands the bunker was destroyed. Those Battle Brothers who survived their wounds would have to undergo intense cleansing rituals. Those who survived the rituals would be stronger for having suffered through teh agonies of defeat at the hands of Chaos. Of greatest concern was Interrogator-Chaplain Azalin. He had been commander of the ground forces since the landing on Forge Primus, and had suffered critical wounds in his fight with the fearsome Keeper of Secrets. His chances of survival were strong, but what effects the wounds inflicted by the Daemon would have was still to be seen... .
