What do you think of those who say they are pagan/wiccan at certain times, but then later on, say they are NOT, they are X religion and are totally against wicca or paganism?
Is it a way to try to fit in? Low self esteem? Confusion? What are your thoughts?

There is a very simple explanation for this...I call it the bullshit syndrome. What's even better is when an "X" type of person thinks that they know what the hell they are talking about when they know absolutely NOTHING about the religion they are claiming to be affiliated with. Seriously, it makes me laugh when stupid people try to be intelligent.
I also think that it is a combination of the three reasons that you listed above. Especially the confused part. Because when I see it happen, I'm definitely confused.

Alright, and in a much more productive answer, my input is that people who claim to be a certain religion might be trying to look cool. Especially (though I don't like to discriminate) with Paganism (and particularly Wicca) in youngish to middleish teenage girls. Of course I'm not saying that there aren't youngish middleish female teenage Pagans out there, but I believe I have seen and I have certainly heard about people doing this. It might have to do with that self-esteem mentioned earlier. Or maybe they're just looking for some way to be different.
On a wider scope than just teens, people in general who claim to adhere to this or that set o' doctrines...well, with mind to everything already stated, it's entirely possible that it's still just the "look cool" factor. For those who later claim to be against the religion they preivously were with...I'd call that one low self-esteem. |

I totally agree too. ![]() The funny part is when you question them, they try to question you back, or they just puke bs. If you say anything that actually makes sense, they point a finger at you and puke s'more bs.

A few years back it became popular in my high school to be a "persecuted" "wiccan". At first me and the girl I practice with were happy that there were so many pagans at our school but none of them knew what they were talking about. I'd mention everyday words and they would stare at me blankly but they couldn't get enough of saying how everyone is out to get them. They need to get a life; they made me and the select few people at my school who are serious about it look bad. Expecially since we had only been practicing for a year at that point....Anyway, amazingly enough they all stopped being "wiccan" about the time that the fad of being fake goth wore out. Go figure.
I don't get it. . . . ![]() ( and I agree that it was most popular with the girls) |
