Can I back up my user account details and preferences?
Yes, go into your User Control Panel and click the Backups button there. You can download a copy of your current settings, signatures and account details here or restore it from a previously downloaded copy on your hard drive.
How do I post a new thread?
To post a new thread, visit the forum in which you wish to post, and click the "New Thread" button. Then, fill out the form with the details you wish to post.
Are there any tutorials available to help me learn about using Best Boards?

How can I reorder threads?
In every forum you will see a T and a U next to the Started and Last Post. This allow users to temporaily reorder the layout of that forum's threads by clicking on the T for Time and Date started or the U for User Started. You can also click the Subject or Replies links on the top of forums to reorder by number of replies or by subject. Once you've entered a topic and exit again the forum will revert to the way its current ordering.
How do I set up a Personal Icon & Personal Picture?
You are welcome to check out the BbGallery and browse around the different pages of BbHosted pictures we offer our members for use on the BbNetwork. There are eighteen pages of potential Personal Pictures and two for Personal Icons anyone to use. When you see one you like just click the Copy URL button below the image you like and then paste into the Personal Picture or Personal Icon field in your User Control Panel's Edit Settings.
How do I use the "code highlighting" feature?
If you wish to highlight some perl or HTML code, you can use the [code] BbCode, with a little enhancement. For example:
The above will highlight and color the HTML code, to an easy-to-read color scheme. You can do the same with perl code:
What's the [whoview] BbCode?
The [whoview] BbCode will insert the person who is currently view the thread's username. So, you can display a message customised to whoever is viewing the thread, like:
Hi, [whoview], how are you?
If someone with the username "bob" is viewing the post, he will see:
Hi, bob, how are you?
How do I post a poll?
To post a poll, visit the forum you wish to post in, and click the "New Poll" button. Then, fill out the form as a normal post. Enter the question for the poll in the "Poll Question" box, and enter up to 10 possible answers. If you do not wish to use all 10 answers, simply leave any surplus boxes empty. Other users will then be able to vote when they view the poll.
How do I change my password?
If you are logged into your account, click here, and scroll to the bottom, where you will see a box "Change Password?". Type your new password in the box, and your password will be changed.
Please note that you may have to re-log-in after changing your password.
How can I change the way the Time and Date appear on boards and posts?
In the User Control Panel under Settings you will be able to set the Date Format which will set the way the time and date are displayed-not the time zone-as that is also in here but not part of this particular setting. You can choose from either a Long or Short form in either 12 or 24 hour type time display for either European or American Date formats. The Long form has the months written out and the Short form uses numbers instead.
What is the Quick Reply and how do I use this feature?
Using this feature is easy and if you have some of your emoticon codes memorized or copied into a text document on your conputer, you can still use emoticons. However signatures are not accessable through a Quick Reply and neither are FillText entries. The big advantage of using the Quick Reply is that it is already loaded when you are viewing threads.
I am getting a message that I cannot post because of flood control... What's that?
Your administrator has enabled flood control, meaning that you can only post a new thread and/or a reply after a certain amount of posting another one.
Just wait a few seconds, and try submitting your post again.
I can't get into my account suddenly and I see LOCKED with some numbers behind it where my public email used to be. Why?
How do I reply to an existing thread?
Open the thread you wish to reply to, then either click the "Add Reply" button at the top/bottom of the page, or select "Reply" from the "Interact" menu on any post. Then, fill out the form to post as normal.
What is the Scheduled Event Feature?
Users can now enter a time, date, and an event in their User CP, and get a warning at the time of the event.
How do I report a post to the moderator?
To report a post to the moderator/admin of the board you are on, visit the post and click "Report To Mod" on the "Interact" menu to the right of the post.
You will be given the option to report to the moderator and/or administrator, and to report anonymously if you wish. You do not need to edit the message if you do not wish to - it defaults to a message giving a link to the post and a quote of it so that the moderator/administrator can act quickly.
What is the Calender for?
It is just there to help you keep track of dates and days. It is just a regular calender.
How do I use the [whisper] BbCode tag?
The [whisper] BbCode tag inserts a private space in your post which only the user(s) you specify can see. For example, the following only allows the users Kilo and BbBoy to view what is between the [whisper] and [/whisper] tags:
Please note that usernames are case sensitive, and if you don't include your own name into the allowed list, you will not be able to see it either.
How do I bump a thread?
To bump a thread, you must firstly have posted in that thread, and secondly the admin of the board must have enabled thread bumping.
View your post in the thread, and choose "Bump Thread" from the "Post Options" menu. (If you're a mod, you won't see this - use the "Mod Options" menu instead).
How do I change my BbEmail?
There is no way currently to change your email address on the control panel but you can email BbSupport and we will gladly do it for you. Use the email you signed up with, add your username and password so we can tell it really is you and then the new address you want to use and we will change it for you.
Can I mark all forums read at once?
Yes, clicking the Mark All Forums Read will make all the forums on the board appear without the unread or new image next to each forum. However each forum with threads in it that you have not read will retain those new unread images.
How do I close a poll I made, manually?
If you no longer wish to let people vote in a poll you started, go to the poll, and select "Close Poll" from the "Post Options" menu.
You can always re-open the poll at any time by choosing "Re-open Poll" from the "Post Options" menu.
Do you have a spellchecker on BbBoard?
No. But if you use Internet Explorer you can download this one http://www.iespell.com/ that will work very well on BbBoard.
How do I use the "auto-close poll" feature?
To automatically close a poll after a certain amount of time, when you are posting the poll, check the box next to "Auto-Close Poll". Then, enter a number of days and/or hours to close your poll after. When that amount of time has elapsed, no-one will be able to vote in the poll any more.
How do I add audio to my posts?
To add audio (sound - wav or midi), you can use the [audio] BbCode. Usage:
[audio]URL to audio file here[/audio]
Please note that audio will not automatically begin playing - anyone viewing the post will have to press the "play" button before it makes any sound at all. Some people dislike hearing sound on message boards, but with this method, those who want to hear it, can.
Why is my username appearing in the who is online box on my Birthday on boards I post at?
It will appear only if you entered in a birthday and it will stay in the boards you post at all day as a special Birthday Greeting.
How do I insert a flash movie into my post?
To insert a flash movie into a post, you can use the [flash] BbCode. Usage:
[flash=width,height,loop,background]URL to movie here[/flash]
width - The width of the movie in pixels
height - The height of the movie in pixels
loop - Either true or false
background - the background color (color name or hex code)
I am getting a message saying 'Blocked Log in' and can't log in.
The message: Blocked login - someone is already logged in to this account. If you are the legitimate user, please e-mail email@example.com from the e-mail address you signed up with. To avoid this in future, please log out before logging in on a different computer, or turn off the login block option in your User CP security settings. will appear when you've either deleted your BbCookie and not logged out before doing so, or you have not logged out properly before trying to log in from another computer.
You need to either uncheck the Log Me In Only Once option in the User Security settings or remember to always log out before you finish a session and plan on logging in from another location. If you need unblocked then you need to e-mail support@bbboy from the email your account is associated with and include your username so we can unblock you.
How do I enable a BbMood for myself on BbBoards with it enabled?
At the top of the Board table or Forum pages at the right or at the bottom on the lower right, you will see a series of links; Log Out, Mark All Read, In Power (if enabled) and below that is the BbMood Selector. If you've never chosen one it will say, "Your Current Mood: Unspecified" and by clicking on the word Unspecified a pop up BbMood Selector will load and you can choose any BbMood you want there. How can I be anonymous in who's online?
There are 2 ways. If you are logged into your account, click here, and scroll down where you will see an option "Be Anonymous In Who's Online".
If you want to swap quickly, look for your name in the who's online, (You personally will always see your own name in who's online) and click the [anon] or [vis] that is next to your name. This will toggle your anonymous status.
If you see [anon] next to your name, that means that you are already anonymous, and clicking it will make you visable again.
If you see [vis] next to your name, that means that you are visable, and clicking it will make you anonymous to other users.
Please note that the administrator(s) of a board you are viewing will still be able to view your name in who's online, but other users won't.
I think I've spotted a bug in the system, how do I go about reporting it?
You can post in our Suggestions and Bug Reports forum, making sure you include detailed information about what you think you're seeing that you think is not working correctly. We like to troubleshoot and fix any bugs as quickly as we can and the best way to help us do that is to post one link to a example that we can go check out.
Using the Custom Fields we've set up that forum for what Browser, including the Version along with what Operating System you've using can be beneficial too, because sometimes things are only found to be affecting a certain browser version and type. We appreciate the time it takes you to make a bug report and any information you can give us about the issue will help us resolve it quicker.
How do I stop ignoring someone?
To un-ignore a user, click on the "Ignore List" link on any board, and then simply click the "Un-Ignore" button beside their name. Note: if it's a local ignore, then you must be browsing the board that you ignored the user on.
How do I add a signature? Can I have more than one?
If you are logged into your account, click here to modify your signature(s). You can have as many signatures as you like - simply create more when you want to.
To select a signature to use in a post, when you are making the post, choose which sig you wish to include from the pull-down menu.
Please note that only registered users can have signatures, and your admin may have disabled sigs for any particular forum.
What does Show New Only do?
Using this setting keeps users from seeing all topics from a given forum that you've already marked as read. It can make a entire forum or board look empty so if you've set this in your User Settings you won't see topics until there are new replies in them, but all the topics are still there. Just going in and removing the check from that setting will make everything reappear.
I've registered a name and tried to, but can't log in? What could be the problem?
It sounds like you're not accepting cookies, so aren't able to log in. Have a look at Google's How to Enable Cookies for how to enable cookies.
What is the Favourite Links and Last Visited features in my User Control Panel?
The Favourite Links allows you to compile a list of your favorite Best Boards so you can go visit them easily. Just click the Add Favourite button and it will offer you a place to put the board ID in and create a shortcut in your User Control Panel to reach the favourite board. The Last Visited displays the last four Best Boards you've been to and makes getting back there easier in case you haven't bookmarked it as a favourite yet.
Where can I upload some images to use as personal pics to use on Best Boards?
One thing people don't think about is that the ISP charges they pay for internet access usually includes between 5-15 megs of hotlinkable webspace, which would be perfect if you are using it for images you plan on using as personal pics. Call your ISP to ask and you can most likely activate it within hours of calling. You'll also need to get all the FTP settings from them and you'll be uploading your images and using them on your board in a flash. If you do not have webspace included in your internet access, try using freewebspace.net to run a in depth search to find a suitable free web host.
How do I ignore a user, no matter what board I see them on?
This is called a "global ignore". To globally ignore someone, go to one of their posts, and choose "Global Ignore" from the "Interact" menu.
How do I attach a file to my post?
To attach a file to your post, when you are making the post, click the "browse" button. Then, select the file from your hard drive that you wish to attach. This file will be uploaded and attached to your post.
Please note that not all file types are accepted, and that your admin may have set a file size limit.
Can I change my username?
You have to reregister with the new name you want. There is not a way to change a username. If you want a post count transfered from the old name to the new one we can do that. But not actually change the name-that old one will still exist.
How do I send a PM to someone?
To send a PM, click the "PM Inbox" button on any board. Then, click on "Send PM", and fill in the form as if you were making a post, except putting the person who you wish to send the PM to in the "Username" box. You can use BbCode in this area.
Please note that usernames are case sensitive. The recipient will recieve an alert box that they have a new PM, and will be given the option to instantly view it, or look at it later - no matter what Best Board they are on.
How do I edit my profile details and my settings?
If you are logged into your account, click here to modify your settigns and profile details. These options include details shown in your profile, and options such as time zone, date format, being anonymous in who's online, and personal pic/icon settings.
How do I edit a post I made?
To edit a post you made, visit the post, and select "Edit" from the "Post Options" menu. Then you can make any modifications to the post.
