"The Secret in healing Narcissism is not to heal it at all, but to listen to it. Narcissism is a signal that the soul is not being loved sufficiently. The greater the Narcissism, the less love being given." ~ Thomas Moore, 'Care of the Soul'.

Q. Is it really possible to heal NPD?

A. Anything is possible. You do not have to be a negative statistic on a probablity curve of people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Healing becomes possible when all parties in a relationship come to see each other as co-creators of the relationship rather then attacker, and victim.

Have any of you read Alice Miller's book, "The Drama of the Gifted Child, The Search for the True Self"?

What did you think about its message?

Did the NPD person in your life think it was helpful and did they talk about it with you?

This was one of the first books I read after receiving my NPD diagnosis. I felt than and still believe it gives one of the best general introductions of NPD that is understandable to pretty much everyone. I have referred this book and the companion edition, "Prisoners of Childhood" to newly diagnosed NPDers and to my family and friends who are trying to understand me (God help them  )

I think my Mother got a lot out of it. My Father (who I believe to be NPD keeps telling me he has lots of questions, so far they've yet to materalize). My sister read them within the last month or so and has been very quiet on the subject, I'll be spending some time with her next week so I might get a better feel for what she's thinking at that time).

I've read it but to the best of my knowledge none of my family or friends have. I thought the message was that this was a serious disorder but there is hope for recovery once you begin therapy. Funny thing is there has been so little meaningful research that the book is older than a lot and still up to date on information. Its a nice escape from samvak.
