English IV: Composition and Grammar...can someone briefly describe...

this course? We have completed C & G I & II. Ds is about half way through C & G III.

Should I expect English IV C & G to be similar to the others in time requirements and level of difficulty? Or, will this last one be a "doozy"?

I'm trying to decide if we should spread out the C & G III course for the rest of the year or try to do the C & G IV course after Christmas. Ds would like to finish up with his schoolwork by mid-May.

It depends on the students strong/weak areas.

English I & II have more grammar, and English III & IV have more composition.

With my dd, English I took the longest time to complete, and English IV took the shortest time to complete...she is a very strong writer and finds it relatively easy, and while the grammar wasn't exactly hard for her...she did find it somewhat tedious.

Our expernience...

...was the same as Joyce's. Our son moved quite slowly through the C&G 1, mostly due to the grammar. Then, he was able to pick up the pace and move more and more quickly through each successive level. My son is also a strong writer, and with the growing emphasis on writing and lessening emphasis on grammar that occurs throughout the levels, he grew more and more comfortable. And like Joyce's dd, my son was able to complete C&G 4 the most quickly of any of the levels.

As far as the level of difficulty of C&G 4 -- you can expect about the same increase in difficulty from 3 to 4 that you experienced from 1 to 2, and 2 to 3. I really think the student who makes it through the 3rd book is well prepared for the 4th. I don't think you should worry much about it at all.

Thanks for the info ladies! I think we'll plan to try and work in the 4th course during this school year. Ds much prefers writing over grammar. :smile: I think he's a little concerned about the research paper, but it looked fairly straight forward to me.

The research paper...

It isn't a long one, and the study guide does a good job of leading the student through it. My son was kind of dreading it too, but found it wasn't really too difficult. He did choose a topic that interested him.
