Cancellation or Success Story - James Madison High School

I too have been looking at correspondence schools and thought JMHS looked very good from both the academic and financial perspective. I have been reading a number of the posts that were complaining about JMHS and it appears that they generally revolved around dissatisfaction with the school's handling of cancellations. I am more interested in WHY people have chosen to cancel their enrollment in the first place.

Would anyone want to share their reasons for backing out? Does anyone have some positive experiences that they could share?

Thanks

We looked at JMHS, too, and finally decided against it. Here's the good and bad from our three experiences with PCDI/JMHS.

1)The Good: I signed myself up with PCDI's associate degree program in business, then decided that we couldn't afford it. The first course had already arrived and looked really really great, but still I just called them up and asked to cancel. No problem. I mailed back the course, and a few weeks later, I received the $5 down payment back in the mail. No hassles from them at all.

2)The Bad: a few years ago I took their fitness & nutrition course. The course itself was fine and I really enjoyed it and learned a lot, but I thought it was over-priced for what I received, and it took forever to get questions answered from the instructor. Even then, the instructor often didn't answer the specific question I was asking, but just gave me some generic info on the subject.

3)The Ugly: I called JMHS some while ago to ask a simple question, very generic about their high school program, but was interrogated with demands for personal information about our daughter. When I started getting annoyed with this, the JMHS person on the phone told me I was being rude. All I wanted to know was in what order the 9th grade subjects were sent. I never got that info and was so angry after that ordeal that I resolved never never never to have anything to do with JMHS again.

I really think their general program is over-priced and their enrollment procedures are too cumbersome -- you have to provide portfolio proof of completion of 8th grade. But the accreditation is good and that is important in some cases. Best wishes to you in making your decision!

A few reasons that lead to my cancellation:

1) It's easy to talk to people before you sign up, but after it's another story.

2) They want a lot of information up front.

3) When I called with questions, before enrollment, they told me to sign up and then they would resolve any problems later.

4) Never give them your address. They will send you information forever. I am still recieving stuff to this day.

5) The school is more of a business than a school, and they run it that way.

The materials are good. I wish it had worked out with them.

It's true...request info from PCDI/JMHS just once, and your mailbox will never be empty again. I started marking all the envelopes I received from them "Refused" and after a little while they quit sending me stuff.

I'll have to try that. I called to get them to stop sending. The man told me if I re-enrolled I would stop getting them.

I'm enrolled and have never had problems. I think maybe they cleaned up as of recent. I don't even recieve anything in my box from them except the monthly bill and books. I wish it had worked out for you all. If you want you can read my success story in a different post.
