I am sure this subject has been discussed before on this board. Could anyone direct me to a thread that compares these two courses and their relative merits and level of difficulty. Thanks, Barbara

We only took the Understanding English, so I'm unable to offer a comparative review BUT, you might want to try searching the archives. Here's the link to the site search for the "old" message board:
Search. I'd suggest typing something like the search words "understanding english" composition grammar [suggest the quotes so it will search for the phrase] and then select SEARCH SITE. You can also go through the individual month's listings of archives at: Archived Messages Hope this helps!

One example of the difference: for the final in G&C the student writes an essay with three paragraphs, while UE requires one paragraph of several sentences.
If the student is one who struggles with writing and/or grammar then I would suggest UE. |
