Drizzle this sauce over your favorite desserts. Or make your cakes and pastries really fancy by serving them over a puddle of this elegant sauce.
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 cups water
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, cut into pieces
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and cornstarch. Whisk in the water, stirring until blended.
Place over medium high heat and bring to a boil.
Continue to cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Remove from the heat and mix in the butter and vanilla. Serve warm.
Yields: 2 cups
