    DJ Fergie quits drinking ( 15:50:51 ThuDec 16 2004 )

Northern Ireland’s best-known DJ Fergie revealed this week that he’s been battling with a drink problem for most of 2004, admitting ‘I was bordering on being an alcoholic.’

The Radio 1 star made his confession in an interview with Turnmills’ publicist Paul Stickings about The Gallery’s upcoming New Years Eve party at Brixton Academy (in conjunction with Heat) and was candid about the extent of his addiction.

“This year has been the worst, but I guess for the past 6 years I’ve just been pissed- I know I can’t keep doing it anymore,” said Fergie.

“I just decided that I was totally fucking myself, to the point where I wasn’t recording anything in the studio or turning up to gigs with a record bag and playing blind.

This year has been about getting sober to be perfectly honest with you. A lot of it has been a bit of a blur and I’ve realised just how much I was drinking. I’m surprised that I’ve still been working as much as I have.”

The Larne raised jock admitted his drinking got out of hand when he moved to Staffordshire, in England.

“Most of the time I was down at this bar in Stafford and not even going home", he continued.

“Instead I was getting the geezer driving me, to go home and pick up my clothes and bring them over to me. Then I’d get changed and spend another couple of days in there.”

A newly sober Fergie will be headlining the 4 arena event alongside Tall Paul (who lands the midnight set in the main auditorium), The Ting, Eddie Halliwell, Nick Sentience, Andy Farley and loads more harder orientated jocks.

As we dance to a beat that seems out of time
To the one you feel in the metronome of your mind
Does it offend you that our rhythm looks strange
Or causes you thinking to be re-arranged
Could it be that you would understand those beat to which we dance
More clearly had you been given the chance
So as you struggle to find the feel with your feet
Ask yourself............can you dance to my beat ???
