Topfree Equal Rights Association: what do you think? ( 21:35:56 SatJan 17 2004 )

In December of 1996 in Ontario, Canada; after Gwen Jacob had fought for the right to be "topfree", just like men, it has become legal for women to go "topfree". :juggle: I remember April Wino1 mentioning this as one of the reasons why she wished lived in Canada, but I have heard that women can also be "topfree" in New York in the States. :jump2: I think there are other Canadian provinces allowing women to "topfree", as well as US states. Now what are everybody's thoughts on this "topfree" issue? :scatter: I kind of have mixed feelings on this, myself. I happen to come from a Christian family, and I'm a Christian myself, and I have been tought that we must keep ourselves clean and pure. My sisters and I are not allowed to go "topfree", being as my mom is strongly adamant against the idea. :whip: But I also remember reading April Wino1's reply to my post asking where in the Bible it says it's wrong for women to go "topfree" but not men? Well, I have been thinking about this alot, and I've also been reading websites on "topfreedom". :ufo: And I can see that a lot of very excellent points have been made. In many other countries around the world, it is very natural for women to go "topfree" as it is for many, and nobody in those country even ever gives those second thoughts. Not anymore than those us in North America ever gives second thoughts to eating hamburgers; even if some may have issues with eating hamburgers, either because they are against eating animals of any sort or because they feel that eating hamburgers is unhealthy, I really could not see there there ever would a law passed against eating hamburgers. :yummy: And many feel that men wouldn't objectify women's breasts so much if it wasn't illegal for women to expose them. :flowers: And I can see where making women's breast be "sex objects" but not men's breasts can be very discriminatory. :ugone2far: Anyway, I'm not saying that I completely support "equal topfreedom", but I can see where some very good points have been made in support of "equal topfreedom". :loveya: Anyway, what do you all think?

Re: Topfree Equal Rights Association: what do you think? ( 15:28:37 SunJan 18 2004 )

Okay, people who know me know that I'm a very conservative person. And I have also been raised up in a strong Christian home. So, all things considered, what I'm about to say next might surprise some people. We've been discussing toplessness in one of my classes at school and disputing over if it should be considered socally acceptible for women to not wear tops. And I think some very interesting points have been made. Women's breasts are considered to be a sexual organ only because society says it is. Topless women might be a new concept for those of us who live in North America, but other countries in the world have had topless women for hundreds (if not thousands) of years. And I have seen a lot of very conservative Christian men going topless, and let's not forget that there there was also a time in this society where it was considered "indecent exposure" for men to go topless. And, you know what else? It's not only Christians protesting against topless women, either. People who run places for porn (about as far from Christian values as you can get) are also against topless women. Do you know why? It's because they know that once topless woman become accepted in today's society, breasts will no longer be considered a sexual organ, and then business will be tight for these people. I know many might argue that topless women will cause more sex crimes to be committed against women. But think about this for a minute. One of the reasons why many perverted men are sexually aroused by women's breasts is because they're a "forbidden object". It is my belief that if women's breasts were not perceived by society to be a "forbidden object" or a "sexual organ", then men would no longer be sexually aroused by women's breasts. And, also many websites will feature photos of only topless women but not anyone who is fully nude, and they'll still demand verification that you be at least 18 years of age or older to view them. You would never see that on a website featuring topless men, right? So, just something to think about. :headscratch:

You both make very excellent points. I think the only reason why women's breasts are considered "indecent" is because society deems it so. :ugone2far:

Oh, boy… I not sure if I should even touch this subject. I was raised up to believe that it's wrong for women to go topless, so I never thought anytthing of it. But you guys do raise some very interesting points. I'll have to think about it for awhile and get back to this.

I never really thought much about this myself; but upon reading your posts, it does seem very unfair that it's acceptible for men to go topless, but not women. Nonetheless, I am very torn on this issue. :scatter:

Re: Topfree Equal Rights Association: what do you think? ( 06:06:48 SunJan 25 2004 )

I have been thinking about this subject a little bit. I do have a hard time coming up with a good reason for why females shouldn't go topless. And before females develop breasts, their chests don't look any different than that of a male. So I would say that it is just society's perception that makes it seem wrong and immoral to go topless. Anyway, this is a very good topic.

I'm all for it!! Insisting that males can go topless but not females is just another form of discrimination.

I think it's ok when done descreetly… If there are little boys or even girls… then that's not very respectful… Yes I understand they are just breasts… and they are not really a sex organ… but do serve a purpose and that's to nourish our babies…

Cheers! :flowers:

I'm with Debbey on this one. It's not about equal rights - it about having class and decency. :babyblue:

You do have a point, Debbey - but I can understand where the others are coming from, as well. Pretty much I was raised up to believe that it was wrong for women to go topless - so I really wouldn't feel all that comfortable going topless in public.

Toplessness is legal in New York, too - but I could never really feel comfortable being outside without a top on. To me, it just feels not right - but this is just my opinion.
