Winter Projects

Just curious what changes or new projects everyone will be working on this winter.

I decided to give the M3 the boot it was fun but I have a new project to start my original car when I was 16 my 1965 Nova. It will take a few years to finish but should be fun. It will make it to next years race hopefully with all the body work done in primer. It still will be running the little 283. But I have some big plans for some big power in the next couple of years.

Re: Winter Projects

During the Woodhouse Track Experience this last weekend at Hastings, MPH. I have come to the conclusion that I need a few more mods. I will install an oil temp gauge and an oil cooler. Also I realize that I will be able to corner much better with slicks, the tires on the car now are great for the SORC event, but not for track events. Also it looks like I will need new front rotors.

As for the other cars in the garage, I will be pulling the engine from my '77 280Z and send it to the shop to be bored over .020 with new rings and pistons. And may start a little needed body work on the '77 as well.

I will also be pulling the engine from my other '75 280Z so I can start cleaning up the engine bay and get the body ready for some media blasting.

Also on the project list is to finish the dry wall in the laundry room and get it painted. Gotta keep the wife happy too.

Hope to see most of you again in Feb. for the Winter party.

See Ya

Big Al

Winter projects? Yes, the wife has em all lined up. Refinish floors, paint the living room, remodel the downstairs bathroom......:bricks:

Number one for the car will be paint and body. Definitely installing a full manual valve body and ratcheting floor shifter too.

Re: Winter Projects

My first car was also a 65 Chevy II, 6 cylinder 3 speed on the column. Of course that was 38 years ago. Wow, time flys! Neat car with the typical upstate NY rust, under the taillights, fronts of the fenders, and the seem in the floor pan.
My winter project? 74 MGB finally getting a new heart...amongst other things. It might actually be alive by Christmas...On life support but, alive:mischief:

Re: Winter Projects

I will try to eke out a few more hp from my NA Taurus build. I have shown up in the past with a different Taurus every year, once with a turbocharged 500+hp one. Next time (2013), I may bring this car:

310 crank hp from 3.0 liters. If I did decide to boost it, I might just show up with a 620+hp Taurus

Re: Winter Projects

i was bummed, my clutch slave decided to give way last sunday, and i cant drive my car to work anymore.

I was planning on going to the drag strip this weekend too! DAMN! Oh well, there is always next year!

So this winter i'm fixing my clutch slave, and while the trans is out i will upgrade my twin disks to hold a little more torque (it started slipping bad on the dyno). Plus some sort of brake upgrade for sure.

Ted, the cobra project looks top notch!

Re: Winter Projects

Finally, engine and tranny out of the Camaro. Got my shopping list...New clutch, timing chain, oil pan, (current one is rusted out!) etc. Engine and tranny should be installed in about 2 weeks. Hoping to be able to move the MG under it's own power by Christmas (not drive but, at least move)....Something it hasn't been able to do since 1985......

Just thought I'd add a picture of the MG, the last and final time I yanked it out of the barn. God willing and the creeks don't rise...It will be bombing around Arnold this August:wink:

Re: Winter Projects

Ralphie,

Quite a project you have there. It should move right along with a Chevy engine in it.

It will be good to have you back at the SORC.

Are you using a Buick or Chevy powered Camaro, Ralph?

I forgot.

Re: Winter Projects

Chris, it is a Chevy 60 degree 3.4 with the T5. It's out of a 94. Going to keep the fuel injection and it will remain mostly stock with a couple of go fast goodies and a slight enhancement to it's tune. The goal is to be around 200 hp, with a car that's less than 2000 lbs. Not Earth shattering numbers by any stretch but, relatively speaking...Should be Loads of fun.

Also I'm thinking once again I will have the smallest car at the SORC:wink:

She is sitting in there like she was meant for it. Going a little slower than planned but, proceeding. I have some really good people fabricating for me (it's beyond my skill level!)

Re: Winter Projects

That does fit in there nice.

We pulled the heads off the Pontiac over Christmas to find 13 of 16 valves bent in the 502.

The last time I overrevved it was in 2007 (when I shifted into 4th instead of 6th and blew up the Detroit locker), so it has apparently been this way for a while (at least 2,000 miles)

New valve springs, valves, valve job and dremel tool head port. All bolted back together, the 2+2 has never sounded better.

Hopefully it will pull harder above 140mph in 5th and rev to 139 in 4th.

Re: Winter Projects

Chris, your Pontiac should perform like a brand new car!

Bob, It is like it absolutley belongs in there, plus it is behind the front axle. Hoping weight distribution ends up close to 50-50. The 3.4 is actually 30-40lbs lighter than the 4 cyl boat anchor that was in it.

Working on the front suspension and brake system at the moment. All new bushings, bearings, springs, king pins, calipers, pads, etc....Hoping to be able to hit 120mph or so....Probably would be a bad time to have a suspension failure!

Re: Winter Projects

The MG project is going a lot slower than planned...:frustrated: Suspension is done, tranny is fitted in. I guess doing it right, takes time.... Lots more to go....It's gonna be iffy for the MG to be there this year, still hopefull though. If we have a couple of strong months of progress we will be ok....If not, then Plan B will come in to effect!
