Winter/Year Project

I guess I was way overly optimistic in my hope that my MG would be able to make it to Arnold this year. It is readily apparent it won't be. The original plan was to get it running this year, then paint and bodywork next year. Unfortunately, I have found that rebuilding a car takes about 3-4 times more time than I had hoped. Basically if it moved or held something that moved...It has been replaced! The new plan is to do it all now. So after fitting the engine and tranny in, they are back out and paint and bodywork has begun. The idea is to get it a little more streamlined in kind of a understated way. It's losing it's bumpers and the valances are being smoothed in, amongst other things. Hopefully it is going to come out pretty well. The color is going to be Corvette Marlboro Maroon. While the MG will not be there in 2012....I will be...Not sure yet what I am driving but, I'll be there!

Re: Winter/Year Project

Ralph, I totally understand what you are saying. In October I had a side by side collision with another car at VIR. Messed up the sheet metal on the right side of my car. I still am confident that it will be ready by August (hope springs eternal), but it is taking forever to complete the body work and do a repaint with new decals. Hang in there on your MG. Be sure to bring something with wheels to Arnold in August.

Yeah, we've all had set backs from one thing or another. Just do it right the first time, and then no worries. Can't you buy a cheap clunker for the race like Jeremy Clarkson would?

Re: Winter/Year Project

Just thought I'd give an update on next years car. While I was a little worried about choosing a "Corvette color" I think it will show pretty well. Will this make me eligible for the "Glass Pak"?

This has turned in to something like a government project with Cost and Time over runs! But, we are getting there. Lots more to do but I do see a light at the end of the tunnel.....Just hoping it is not the train...

Glad to see the project is moving along. I was really looking forward to seeing the car in person this year. Hope to see it next year.

Just thought I'd show that work continues...It is a long freaking road! Got the gauges in. Borrowed an idea from the MINI and put the speedo a little right of center so my navigator can see it too!

Realistic target date...April 2013...Lions share of stuff is done, although I have a feeling the Devil is going to be in the details!

Ralph, your buggy looks better and better. I can see hours of work in just the instrument panel. Details details! Hang in there and bring it to Arnold in August. I really look forward to seeing it.

Re: Winter/Year Project

Another year and once again the MG will not be coming to Arnold:frustrated: It will be pretty close to ready but, once again, instead of rushing I decided to eliminate the deadline I put upon myself and give it one more year! Wow! these things take time.......And I simply can't dedicate as much time as I would like to it.
As for me, I will be in Arnold, driving who knows what?. I hope to pick something up in a few weeks and drive whatever it is on out....Should be quite an adventure!
