Had so much fun, despite some car issues. Makes for good stories later. At least we seen both finish lines this year. We have our rooms reserved for 2013 and making plans.

We also had a great time thanks to the local folks and mother nature. Great weather. No race-lenghtening freak accidents on Saturday, that was great. Minor hold up on Friday but no big deal. Good food and cold beer.

This was my first year at SORC and I could not have asked for a better time or to have met better people. Thank you all who helped and who we met, thank you all who gave assistance and pointers. For those who were not able to meet, we hope to do so next year. I learned a lot of what to do and what not to do, most importantly that it would have been a good idea to put my front license plate back on for the drive home (kindly reminded by the State Patrol, who also wanted to make sure I knew he saw the Speed Channel episode on last year's race). We were fortunate to have been part of this event, and again I hope to see you again next year.

As always, what a great time! It was wonderful to see everyone again. Thanks to everyone, especially the volunteers, who without their hard work, none of this would ever happen! And a couple of special shoutouts..First to Earl and Ila Dailey for putting up with my wife and I for almost a week...And to Mr.Nice, for letting me drive a great car, it was a pleasure!

I must add my heartfelt thanks to the good folks of Arnold and to all who plan and execute this magical driving event. The L2L, the shootout and the SORC race were all soooo great. And seeing good friends from Arnold and all around the country was simply the best! I can say from experience that the SORC is the only driving event where, even though my car broke, I still had a great time! And with no help from the Grand Phooey, the Old Clunkers came through with the Team Championship. Wow, what a thrill. Next year, with or without my help, they will do it again.
Joe, with help from so many volunteers from Arnold and the surounding communities, your dream, your idea, has become the best open road race in America! I will continue to make the long drive from Baltimore to participate in the SORC as long as I am able. Bill Kuiper Grand Phooey Team OCA |

Dear Mr. Bill,
To often I am given credit for the success of the SORC. If the event depended upon me it would surely have failed. The SORC Board of Directors, the volunteers, land owners, and the folks of Arnold are responsible for the popularity of the SORC not to mention the drivers. I marvel at the dedication of so many who donate so much time so that others can have fun. I know if it were me that had to do the work I would probably sleep in. It has been a high point for me to be a part of the SORC. When I think of how Bruce and I first met the Custer County Commissioners in 2001 and look at how far we have come today I just smile and shake my head in wonder. So I guess you could say that I owe a lot of people for making the SORC happen. I owe all of them big time. Mr. Nice |

Mr. Nice,
Yes, you do, as do we all! The fascinating part is that everyone benefits. The SORC generates significant revenue for Arnold and the participating communities, and it provides a unique driving experience for folks like us who love to do that sort of thing. When I asked a resident of Arnold a few years ago if he and other local folks enjoy the event as much as we drivers do, he emphatically replied "yes, it's like a big family reunion!" The midwestern cultural tradition of friendly hospitality is the magic ingredient. So many volunteers donate their time and skill to plan and execute this complicated event, and people of Arnold open their homes to complete strangers. Drivers/navigators/families come from far and near to participate, strong new friendships are made, and when the driving is done everyone has a good feeling about the experience. In the SORC, it all works together for good. And people like you and me get to play like a bunch of carefree children. Such a deal! My heartfelt thanks to everyone who participates!!
