Josh got a chance to run one of the faster cars in the shootout which is also one of the harder cars to launch as well. Though he struggled the first run, he rocked it the second run.
I always love seeing the generosity of racers to ensure SORC staff get to have some fun as well; Great job Josh and thanks again for all you do on race days. It takes a lot of planning to make a race weekend go as smooth as it did this year. Josh 1st Launch

Lifer 11 aka Eric,
You make doing 161 + in the half mile look easy. Good job of driving and building that car. It rocks! BY # 2 |

Chris & Jon,
Your video of Loup 2 Loup was fun to watch. My favorite line was when Jon said, "Do you think they'll notice?". Thanks for posting. BY # 2 |

I wish I had Dabney's comments on tape.
He said he knew we DQ'd when the girl working the finish line with him said "OOOOOHHHH... I Liked that one!" when we went thru the traps 50 mph faster than all of the previous cars.

It was sure hard to miss this year.
I listened to the shootout via streaming audio, and let me tell you, it was difficult to listen. I really wanted to be there. Congratulations to Eric and John Schmidt. 1/2 and 1 mile KOH. One of these years, i will get my crap together and maybe give you some competition. I'm glad everyone was safe, the weather was good, and things went almost perfect for everyone. Hopefully i can get my old heap freshened up this winter and enjoy it next year. btw, I am a democrat, i shift for myself, and i do almost all of my own work on my car. (instead the top down approach of paying someone to work on my car). I wish i could, but i can't afford it, I apologize for not helping the economy.

I am with car_2 aka Chad. I was really missing the race this year. Chad was kind enough to update me through text of everyone's progress.
I have no idea what I will be racing next year my Nova should be up and running but I am not sure I feel safe racing with 4 wheel drum brakes going through the twisties.

Dear Mr. Car 2,
I would have never guessed that you were a Dem. You always seemed to be so level headed. There is hope though, for you are still young enough to overcome the influence of liberal indoctrination. I used to do all of my work until my fortunes changed. When the government was kind enough to build my business I found that I had the resources to pay others to do the work. At one time I enjoyed building and tuning engines but at my advanced age I no longer care to do so. I do admire those who do their own work but not enough to do it myself. Just to let all know that I have not always been one who had my cars built by others I will share a little history. In my teens and early twenties I had a couple of very neat street machines. The fastest was a 64 SS Nova 283 4 speed. I pulled the engine, punched it to 4" and obtained a forged 327 crank from a buddy who puked a 327/365 engine. Turned the crank, went to the Chevy dealer and bought a LT1 cam, and big pistons. Had a set of studded fuely heads, and fed them through a Z28 intake topped with a duel feed 3310 Holly. With stock drum brakes one had to pick very carefully where to let the car stretch it's legs. The most unique ride however was my high school 56 Ford Club Sedan. Unlike most "Y" block Fords the car was more than a match for GTO's, Impalas, and 289 Mustangs. The engine was a de-stroked 312 with milled heads with a compression ratio in the neighborhood of 11 to 1. Most people are unaware that Ford owned NASCAR in 1957 with a supercharged 312 engine. The S/C 312 had a fairly wild cam of which I remember had a 290 degree duration with close to half inch lift. It also used aluminum push rods. In order to increase the engines usable RPM and lessen valve float we installed double valve springs, triple retainers, and shims underneath. The car would pull strong to 6,000 RPM. I also found a pair of headers for the car and fed it through a dual feed Holley. The advance curve for the dual point distributor was machine set. No computers in 1965. Behind the power plant I had a Borg Warner T10 from a salvaged 406 Galaxy coupled to a 4.10 gear. Other than a set of chrome wheels the car's exterior was stock and the engine with stock mufflers. It was a superior sleeper. Sometimes I think about building copies of those cars. I soon come to my senses and I am reminded that regardless how cool they were in their day they would not perform to the level I am accustomed. Some things are best left to memory rather than compete with the reality of the present. Wow! I didn't know I could be so profound. Mr. Nice |
