Shootout 1st and 2nd run elevation difference

Up for discussion on if it makes a difference on speeds between the two 1 mile shootout runs. I personally like the alternate run better and had many spectators comment that they liked the finish line better.

The purpose of this post is purely to compare the elevation difference. Now, keep in mind that GPS error at these speeds are within 30ft for elevation so they do not exactly overlay though it does show the general difference between the two runs good enough for discussion I believe.

Original 1 mile run

Alternate 1 mile run

Re: Shootout 1st and 2nd run elevation difference

The Elevation Change has way less to do with the speed differences in the 3rd run than the distance error induced by the Alternative mile being paced off in 800 "Joe-Feet" (twice) and the timing errors from the Traps being an Inch or 3 short.

If you are looking for differences induced by an elevation gain of maybe 15 feet over a mile, they are miniscule, vs. wind, etc.

Dear Mr. Chris,

I will have you know that we did not use "Joe Feet" in changing the start/finish lines for the shoot out after the oil spill. A measuring wheel was used which was held by me while riding in the back of an ATV. I expertly observed the measurement and had the driver, Don Olson (Grand Pooba and president of the SORC) stop at precisely 875 feet. The distance was precise and could not have been improved upon. Once more you have taken the opportunity to sully my reputation. In the future I insist that you "RESPECT MY AUTHORITY."

I also had several spectators tell me they liked the finish line of the alternate runs better. It definitely provides a more consistent path.

Since I did not participate in the shootout, Vicki and I went as spectators. I also agree that the relocated finish line was an improvement over the original finish. I think you should plan to use the "modified" shootout setup in the future.
