I am looking at running in the 90 mph class with my camaro that is prepped for Solo Sprints and have a few questions....
I have a 6 point roll bar ( 1.75", 0.134" wall ERW) with removable door bars, and an X brace. I still have Y style harnesses that mount to a welded harness tab on the X brace on the rollbar. I don't have factory seat belts and my harnesses are now out of date but in new condition. Would these be legal in the 90mph class? I also have a ATL Fuel cell, but its only an 8 gallon cell. Are we allowed to refill the fuel cell between legs? This is a much longer event than I usually run and the car is pretty thirsty. I would need around 7 mpg to make it without running out of gas, and I bet I actually get around 4mpg under racing conditions. |

Oh yeah - the fuel cell is sunk into the trunk floor so it is not easy to change it to a larger cell....

Hi Rick,
They will check the date on your harness belts so if they are out of date I would get new ones before racing. As far as refueling there is not a problem as long as you have the gas at the other end of the leg. Since you will not be able to transport the fuel in your car up on the first leg I would see if you can get someone to be at the other end with the fuel.

What year camaro? There is supposed to be metal between the driver and the fuel cell, which could be problematic in a 3rd gen.
For the 90 mph class, 8 gallons should get you to Dunning unless its horribly out of tune. There is a gas station just north of the turnaround. If you top it off in Dunning you are good to go, because the south leg is shorter and you can coast into town if it dies after the finish. We don't usually fill up in dunning.. but have to be safe in the past and burn 10-14 gallons during the whole race in the 115. I take the corners slow and am at WOT a lot during the race. This is with a 4000lb+ car with a 502 and an 850 Double pumper. An 8 Gallon Fuel Cell won't work at any other ORR, unless you are driving a 4 cylinder.

Sorry to say but you will need to check with the tech people but a 'Y' harness has been illegal in other ORR event for atleast 5 years. Stan
PS. the ERW tubing is not very strong and if it was bent wrong will split when you need it the most.I consider ERW just above muffler tubing! |
