The pigeon birds...

I know we're supposed to love birds, but...what if their owner gets rid of their house and they(the pigeons) become nomads and live in the roof gutter near my room? That's the reasons why I hate them. But, of course, I feel sorry now they are nomads. And now they're having children in the gutter too!

Re: The pigeon birds...

Pigeons are wonderful birds and I raise my own as well. That's the thing you can't take your flock with you because they'll return to where they first learned was their home. Best thing to do is cover up holes in your roof and gutters so they don't get in. We have big holes in our house since the hurricanes ripped stuff up back in 2004 and we don't mind the pigeons so we haven't bothered to fix them. Now we have pigeons living eveywhere.

Re: The pigeon birds...

Well, problem is, they've already nested in the gutter and reared squabs.

And BTW, I saw a pigeon with no feet, but stubs. I guess that they didn't form prope.rly

Re: The pigeon birds...

Sometimes birds are born with defects or they lose feet to predators like hawks and cats.

Re: The pigeon birds...

I sometimes see ferral pigeons in my town centre with foot defects. I think it's because there often so many of them and the breeding can become out of control producing I think called throwbacks. I wouldn't think it would be the result of cats or hawks being in the town centre, more likely defects with our ones.

Actually that's more common from predator attacks even in the city. Hawks and falcons are well adapted to living in cities.

When I went to Australia, there where so many pigeons in Melbourne and Sydney. They tried to get some food from me. There were also ravens.

Re: The pigeon birds...

Reminds me of when I went on a school trip years ago to London and had lunch in Trafalger (*sp) Square. There were also so many pigeons and they wanted to share our lunches. One girl was eating a packet of crisps and had a pigeon on her shoulder picking the crisps from the packet. I had one on my shoulder whilst I was eating crackers with cheese and it pecked the side of my mouth as I bit the cracker.

I was so annoyed about that trip, the fact I took photos and I guess hadn't loaded the camera properly !
