1. The gun is solid and well built. The magazine is heavy and sturdy. Overall a very high quality product, about what I was expecting. 2. Loading the CO2 cartridge into the magazine isn't entirely obvious at first. It took a few minutes and a few re-reads of the instructions to get the CO2 in. 3. The sights are cheap looking, the attachment rail is a joke. But it is a BB gun, so I guess I shouldn't expect too much in this area. 4. I test fired it into some flat wide card board boxes filled with newspaper wads, about 3" thick each. It penetrated 2 boxes completely and stopped in the third. A few BBs went clean through all 3, I suspect these were single shots I fired. 5. The gun makes a noticable sound, but it isn't that loud. I shot in my garage and my wife could barely here it in the house. 6. 300 rpm is useless. 450 is marginally interesting. 600 is interesting. I now understand the desire for a 900 rpm setting. Perhaps someone will figure out a mod to triple the 300 setting. 7. At first, I thought I would hate the yellow. But I don't seem to mind it, now at least. I'm in an urban area so, I guess an yellow gun would be less likely to attract the attention of the neighbors and passersby if they were to see me with it in my backyard or garage. My wife commented that it looked and sounded more like a powertool than a bb gun. Which I suppose isn't such a bad thing. I think I'll hold off on the black Alumahyde for now. 8. There was absolutely no recoil. In fact the first few test bursts I didn't even realize I was shooting BBs. It seems to be hard to determine when you run out of BBs, well in my garage shooting at cardboard boxes at least. |

If we are caught dishcharging ANY type of air gun within our city limits, it is a NASTY big ticket and possible confiscation of the gun. The garage shooting gallery sounds terrific. I do it in my office...really relieves stress. Uh, one comment again on the rail. It works perfectly for the tiny All Shot laser. I love it on mine. It isn't completely worthless to some of us simpler souls. ![]() |

I'm just extremely paranoid about ricochets. I did get about 2 ricochets out of the 3 clips I fired off in the garage. After the first I grabbed the shooting glasses, which I probably should have had on in the first place. I was going to take it apart and look at the resistors behind the rate selector that the Russian guy talks about, but I haven't got off my lazy duff to dig out the solder gun to put on the pin connectors on the solenoid wires. I don't want to cut those until I have soldering iron in hand. |

By the way. I have a russian neighbor and I showed him the gun the other day. He told me that DROZD means "WOODPECKER" in russian............... How appropriate!! |

It isn't at all what my original drawing showed since I made some horrible mistakes and just salvaged what I could. It doesn't make it quieter. It doesn't make it louder. It doesn't speed it up or slow it down. It isn't a muzzle brake because there isn't any blast to brake. I just spray painted it black and set screwed it on. I tickle myself silly doing stuff like that. I have too much time on my hands. |

Actually, there must be something wrong with my barrel extension, or I made it too long. My Drozd actually seemed to shoot farther and straighter without the barrel extension. I'll definitely be going back to the drawing board on the barrel extension. I did start to play with with the gas adjuster, and verified what has already been posted here. All it seems to do is waste CO2 with a modest increase in velocity if turned up. After playing with the Drozd, here would be my wish list, in addition to some of the obvious things already discussed: 1. More efficiency - I would be thrilled if more shots had the same power as the few bursts on a fresh CO2... I know, laws of physics and such. What about that tank adapter someone posted a picture of on this forum? The gas leaking out of the bottom of the magazine with each shot sure seems wasteful. 2. Pellets!!! -- Better ballistic coefficient and accuracy of the pellets would be nice, although more difficult to load. 3. Factory longer barrel. A longer barrel from the factory for better velocity would be nice. |
