Sony: You mean muzzle velocity, right? I'm pretty sure mussle velocity is a term used in clam racing.

ATF,
I tried that, clapped my hands really loud, and I got MACH 3!!!!! OK seriously, It is very simple I like it. Only thing is that it will show the average FPS over the distance that you are shooting at. Since the BB will slow down as it travels, you will not get the speed at which the BB is coming out of the barrel, known as mussle velocity. or at a specific distance from the gun.

Can you not buy these great little digital chronos in the States?
Its called a combro and attaches to the end of your gun; very accurate but Airguns only. I use it for all of my testing-supposed to be 98% accurate. You put in the BB/pellet weight and it will give fps and pounds per foot Combro | ||||

That is very clever. Thank You for posting this as my current chronograph needs a new phone book.

Using the basic physics of sound properties you can use your computer and a sound recording software package like Audacity to measure you FPS quite accurately.
Just got done doing my gun and average after 20 shots is 766 FPS on a HPA 3000 psi 850 regulated tank. Solenoid mod and pot turned for extended barrel and suppressor kit installed. I have not done a battery mod - still using normal retail available Energizer High Energy Cells AA - Quite happy with the results - Need to fine tune the pot and solenoid now - For those interested in finding out how to do this - here is a link to an explanation. Homemade Chronograph I hadn't bought a chronograph yet and wanted to at least get an average baseline. At 99USD I just haven't justified purchasing one yet. As far as this method goes - comments are that it is surprisingly accurate within 2-3% of what you would see on a chronograph. Those that have done this have compared to paintball shop Chrony results or their own and verified it is extremely close to actual chronograph measurements. Anyway - thought I would share that. Kind of fun doing it that way if you have the time and what not.
