I will explore the Uzi more as soon as I can get extra mags and more mag gaskets (My gasket split, and the gun will not work properly without it). The Uzi is for sure a good candidate for modding. I put a 16" barrel on it to start. And yes, I do now use 1200 psi through it. So far no problems other than that gasket. ---Cam

Thanks TBK. I think the PB idea is out but the airsoft idea may work. The main advantage is the feed is 6mm and the mags will just snap into place. My dual drum with 4.1 volt motor has no problem cycling 6mm steel. Also the 6mm barrel is right there and lined up properly. There internals may do, once they are replaced with steel and a larger valve is installed. The newer AS guns are now using 200-400psi co2 and the internals are better. The ones up here are shooting well over 400 and some are hitting 480 with .2 grams. The AS Uzi is hitting is hitting 540fps. I belive there are only 3 parts different than the 4.5mm .The mag but they hook up the same and look the same, the barrel which can be changed in 5 minutes and the valve. The UZI is a gun that crys out for conversion to 6mm steel. Also theAS version has a bit more plastic.Cam has increased the psi with very little effect but you khow How to make these blowbacks put out more fps. Any ideas on this Uzi one? GD.

Yes that one was open bolt. I was doing it as simply as possible. The entire action, if you saw the picture, is made so it could be put in any number of gun bodies or stocks.
The paintball gun could be put into another gun body, but that is dependent on the particular paintball gun and what you were putting it into. You want the magazine and cocking handles to be in the right place as well as the trigger and air inlet. You may have to redo or otherwise adjust one or all of those to make it look and work correctly. That's why I made my own. The paintball guns were only made for co2 pressures. The valves can and will work for a bb gun. It depends on how much velocity you want and how much air you are willing to waste. I haven't seen the co2 air soft mechanism. I would expect them to be similar, but made specifically for the low performance level for air soft. They could be beefed up, I would expect, but it may not be worth the effort to reach our expected performance level. If you just want to bump it up in power to fire 6mm steel at 5-600 fps, then most likely yes. Yes, I still think using the air soft mags is the way to go for 6mm. TBK

TBK.Could you explain how one these work.Where is valve pin? Do you think an PB action could be trans planted inside that Tomspson? Your gun was the action called an open bolt? Seeing as airsoft is now making co2 guns.If you were to reproduce their firing mecanism with steel instead of plastic or very thin bronze and also enlarge their valve and return spring.Do think this would this would work.I have a friend who is a machinist but about 70 miles away. With the airsoft firing mech. in front of him could he reproduce it. It has axcess to cnn, lathes and all that good stuff. They make stuff for aircraft.By using the exact airsoft stuff, you also solve the mag and mag feeding. GD.

The Thompson action is my design machined by me from a block of metal. The recocking method is my idea. I didn't use any parts from paintball. I even did the trigger mechanism from scratch.
The mag was pretty straight forward. It is pretty reliable for feeding .177 bbs. The Caselman plans were good enough for me to build one. Like most things, plenty of work was required to get it running and to make corrections and changes to the plans. TBK

Also TBK. The bolt, bolt carrier, firing etc.Are they all made by you or are they a very modified paintball setup or other full auto airgun? GD.

Hello TBK.I went thru Cam's link. Not much in terms of diagrams ,explainations or pictures of the breech +mag feed. Do you remember the name of the posting? That would help. GD.

The accuracy test was not from very far- in the shop as I recall. I think I put that in the build thread. The thread link is below as posted by Cam.
The testing and tuning of the gun led to more ideas on controlling the recocking force. A lighter main spring needs less recocking force but also means less force to open the valve and a slower rate of fire. Balancing everything out and making it reliable is part of the fun! TBK

TBK you should publish a small book on your projects. The accuracy test were from how many yards or meters? How did you solve the problem of blow back. Most reports say increasing the psi does not increase the fps and you got 680fps at 850psi? You have to be the first in so many areas but making the blow back work properly is something. Where is your built thread? I tried the other day for 3 hours to find more about your gun. A 6mm steel would be really something.Way more fpe. I got to get a small lathe. Can't wait for your new project. GD.

Yes, the Tompson I gave my Dad was .177. I tried a number of different things with it. I ended up with .177 as the recocking was a concern and since I got that working in grand style, any larger calibers will be easier to do. I had some good ideas incorporated into that one.
When I get back to building you might be able to convince me to do a 6mm version. That might be a good project for some of you do-it-yourself ers. I'll think some more about that. I really had fun with the Thompson. It would be easy to use the drum mags. I have something really spectacular I want to do first, though. Trying to find the time. No, GD, they weren't co2. It really was a scratch built design. I just used the body for looks. I posted a picture of firing section in my build thread. TBK

GREAT SCOT TBK.Did you build a 6mm steel firing Tomspson? If the answer is yes, please tell us about it.In facxt tell us how you built a .177. Where these guns, airsoft to begin with.Hopefully they were co2 airsoft. Did you try to built both a .177 and 6mm steel drum mag.Are there ant 6mm tomspson or ppsh that could handle 6mm steel.I have so much to learn. GD.

I remember you were talkin' 'bout the possibility of .45+ cal. ....Castleman... Sh!t he's a god, huh! I think I need to build your Tommy!! Damn, that's too COOL!! ---Cam
