Re: The Many Faces of the Drozd

Further Update. After struggling for nearly a week, I have finally secured the barrage barrel to the battle axe adapter.Trying to use the two plastic brakets was a disaster.I drilled and used JB Weld and still it came apart.I finally got 1 screw in the rear of the adapter and into the barrel.I just used a a tie for the front. Not exactly pretty but it works. I need now to attach my dual drum mag and cycle steel and plastic. It should work. Then some burst fire and some fps numbersto see if all this work freeing up the gas flow has worked. GD.

Re: The Many Faces of the Drozd

There was 1 loud bang and a flash, followed by 2 more. That ended a night shooting at the fishing lodge. There was a cloud of smoke and the mag puff up like a marshmellow. When I got home I took the mag apart.A lot of plastic was burnted and the mag was toast.I saved the batteries and the brass fitting.I was firing bursts maybe 8 at a time with tracers mixed with HE.Each HE had a tracers on each side of it.The ratching of the bb load was too much for the fragile HE.The part that that is HE is inside the actual BB.They drilled a hole through the bb and then inserted the HE mixture. It is also recessed in the plastic bb to protect it.The ratching is server. On my 30 round mag, it would put flat spots on the steel bb.For the plastic bb with the very sentitive HE it was too much. Re: The Many Faces of the Drozd

All the gas related stuff is done.I now need a new and better looking way of securing the Battle Axe adapter to the barrage barrel.Hose clamps look so tacky.I have found in my store house of small parts 2 plastic brackets that fit and snap togther. They slip tightly over the barrage barrel.A couple of screws and JB Weld and the adapter will be held on securely..Nothing worse showing how well my 6mm project is doing, when in the middle of a burst the whole magazine drops off the gun.Even worse when a HE 6mm accidently goes off in the mag and sets off one or two more. The mag was toast. Drinking water from medievil times to maybe 1900 was a death sentence.Beer is boiled and bad bacteria cannot live in the PH of fermenting wine . When I traveled in third world countries I never drank local water and brushed my teeth in Jack Daniels. GD.

Re: The Many Faces of the Drozd

Hello Dubb.I heard this story also.It is not true.I brewed Bocks for many years and won a across Canada compedicion. The Bocks I brewed were single Bocks not the dopplebocks.Something over 10% is crazy to drink.Way too much octane. The story of the monks and sepcial lager yeast is the right one.I bet you never drank dobblebocks again. My single were around 9%.That's more than enough.Beer is the cousin of bread.Think of it as a barely samwhich.Continuing the story. This yeast become one of the things that made German brewing great and very rich.you went to jail or were hung if you tried to take this yeast out of Germany.A Danish Brewer named Carlsberg decided to try.He went to Germany and with hundreds of pounds of ice smmugled this yeast to his brewery in Coppehaggen.Theis lager yeast is now khowen as Carlsberg Unum. The german brewers who came to the USA brought this yeast.Nearly all US beer production changed to lager from ale. This is why nearly all American beers have German names.Budwiser,Coors, Miller and many more. The way Germans and English see beer is a drink of moderation and see it as food. I was told that it was all the good stuff from the very bottom of the vats, this was their anual way of cleaning up at the breweries, and that's why they only have it late in december. I drank 4 of them my first night in Mainz. I vaugly remember using a chain of buildings to support myself, and taking a nap on one of the landings in the stairway of my barracks. I can't figure out how I found my way back there, since it was my first day there. I guess that's where I spent my first night (or a enough of it until I was sober enough to walk again), part way up the stairs, on the landing in the corner, with everyone going by. Funny, nobobdy said anything, then, or after. That wasn't that unusual around there. Boy, I sure never saw that coming, and I believe that it is 20% alcohol.

Re: The Many Faces of the Drozd

Hello Dubb and all.Dopplebock is real high octane.I believe by law, it must be over 10% and many are 12%.I believe the translation is a double bock.A really interesting beer. The single Bock was brewed by monks in Germany.I am not sure of the year but maybe early 1800's.It was a bier that was made to last.It waS made in the late Fall and put in caves. It was fermented by the first Larger yeast. The temperature during the winter would stay around 40-50F.They had a larger yeast that was quite happy below 50F.Ale yeast would die in these temperatures. Also Ale yeast cannot fermented below 50F.It took a long time but by Spring it was ready.Strong alcholol and deep brown color. It is a Springtime beer.Drink 2 Dopplebocks on an empty stomach and you are going to bed. I was stationed in Germany, and I was known to drink a beer or two. Alt is good, but the real thing is "dopplebach", that will kick your ass.

Glad to hear you are brewing RAD.An ALT a brew mADE IN HEAVEN. One of only two German Ales.I used to think you needed real German Alt yeast but I have tasted ones brewed with regular Ale yeast and they were great. If I remember it is served in small glasses.Try if you can to fermented at the bottom rangeof your yeast, around 50-55F.This temperature will make sure there are no esters produced.Esters are vorbodden in German brewing. If you can't control the temperature fermented at room temperature say 70F.You still will get great beer. Re: The Many Faces of the Drozd

With any beer ingredients left over from a batch I could mix up some varied proportions and combos and age them differently and see what come up as a possible future batch. My first ever brew was a Dunkel which I tried to invest a very low bitter/stout nature akin to an ALT. Was called Zauchbrau(pronounced 'Tsowckbrow') I have a bunch of Drozd parts left over from my 1st 2 drozds. Primarilly the idea was to carve a wooden or Bondo cast to an original design for cool factor+ but the same principle that have made the original mechanical design so successful.

Almost the last step left in the drozd's evolution is its outward cool factor. like SW has done with his Crosman 2240's.

Thanks Cam.During this project, I had to go thru all my parts. There is well over 300 of them.I am very disorganized and the parts are all over the place.I found 3 breech nut gaskets and a breech nut.I can now make a third gun.I also found a .177 ten inch barrel. GD.

It is done!It is very crude but I am sure it will work,Testing Mon. or Tues.Everything is new from the mag head valve to where the air tube sits in front of the barrage barrel breech. Some final JB Weld issues. The bb head hole is now just under 6mm.Then the reamed out barrel which is 5.4mm now and then 7mm tubing to the barrage barrel breech..It should move Hpa or cxo2 alot better.I khow the old setup with .20gram 6mm ammo was around 720fps and with 6mm steel was 480fps.I am hoping with the new plumping to get 550-600fps with steel 6mm. Minor progress.I need to clean up some crude points.Where the barrage barrel meets the drozd. I need to drill a couple of better holes. My holes are all over the place. When I first built the prototype I used screws that were too long. They immpeded the HPA flow.I need to cut them and have two screws on the top and 1 onthe bottom.Things are moving along but more slowly. More progress.I am trying a new idea. The hole leading to the breech of the barrage barrel is real small and the last time I did this I used a small diameter tubing. This time has I am trying to get the tubbing all about the same size .I have put the final tubing with a flared end and a oversized rubber gasket. It is held tight by screwing the barrage barrel adapter to the barrel nut.Well screwing is not quite right but it is close. The adpter is secure to the barrel nut by 3 screws.I still need to JB Weld some parts still and some fine tuning. Hello DUBB.The oring is from a plumbing store. My DAd gave a whole box of different sizes. So most likely they would have a problem with co2. GD.

No, those are most likely allright, if they are black, you should be good to go for Co2.

I think that butyl nitrate o-rings are ok for Co2. That's what most of the seals in the Drozd are made from, so it stands to reason that freezing isn't an issue for them.

MORE PROGRESS.Replaced stock gasket with 7mm+ oring.THis was a major problem as it restricted flow, now everything will be around 7mm.It cracking loud again.Won't be able to use co2 because it would freeze the oring.Pictures are coming.Just need now to mod from barrel nut forword to barrage breech. GD. PS The measurements are guesses but the stock gasket is replaced with some thing alot larger,

I have made more progress.I have decided to leave out tubing between the mag head and the breech nut.I have JB WELDED Zaitsev's eyelet and ptessed into the opening. I tried a power test without the JB and there was complete sealing in the mag/breech nut area.Only a small leak in the bb feed.Toook the mag apart and sealed the bb feed.It is hard to get the mag in with two parts for sealing but a little fileing and some oil and they came togther. It is dam tight. If I need to use the tubing for Helium, I have found two perfect pieces. With the mag bbexit now 6mm but less with the eyelet(maybe over 5.5mm), mag gasket inlarged and barrel drilled out, it really LOUD.I have to wait for the JB to set proberly so no new testing till late Sat.The next step is putting tubing all the same size to the breech of the barrage barrel and I am ready for some 6mm steel testing. Stay tuned. GD

Post some pics later on GD .. am really interested in this project, might have to buy another Drozd to play with. = )
