"high demand on server"
The users on our board have been increasingly getting booted to the "we are currently experiencing high demand on this server" page.

This has happened to me several times today and when it happens I lose whatever reply I was posting (unless I had the foresight to copy it first).

I'm taking a poll on our board, but this seems to be happening frequently, one member said it had happened to her 6 times already today.

Thoughts? Any way to move to a less crowded server? Any plans to add servers?

Thanks!

Re: "high demand on server"
I'm getting lots of replies to my post about this problem on "my" board.

"GMT +/- 7:00 pm TO 8:30 pm.

It kept happening, almost every time I clicked a link...very annoying"

"It happened to me about 7 times, just after lunch EST."

Any solutions?

Re: "high demand on server"
I'm not exactly sure what was causing this problem, but it seems to have been fixed now. However, I can tell you that it was nothing to do with server capacity. None of our servers are crowded and we always purchase new servers ahead of time, to keep abreast of expansion needs.

How long ago was that, chickenlady? It's only been fixed in the last half hour or so.

Actually there will always be "server busy" messages on the odd occasion - it's not as though they will be gone for ever and never happen again, becuase they will happen with peak loads. So please, we don't need to know every time someones gets one - it's only if they are persistent, like has been happening the last couple of days, that it becomes of concern - and we will be aware of it as much as you are, because we are here virtually around the clock.

The thing is, as I explained elsewhere, if you get one and immediately try again, chances are it will happen again, especially if everyone does the same!

I personally haven't had one since the problem (whatever it was) was fixed. I have asked BbBoy to let me know what was causing it and will let you guys know when I know.

It happened earloer today also. It gives me the message, I wait a couple minutes, it lets me in. Now it isn't letting me post.
Only 16 users on this board.

Re: "high demand on server"
It actually doesn't matter how many users there are on an individual board - it's the amount of activity on the server itself. If the server receives xxx requests all in the same instant, then it can't handle more than a certain number. In that case, it rejects the ones it can't handle and gives the users that message.

Though I haven't heard directly from BbBoy today, the recent significant drop in those messages led me to believe that he had made some sort of adjustment - though what that was, I don't know yet - maybe he didn't even make an adjustment.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, there is still one element at play in all this and that is the deleted free boards - anyone trying to access them will initiate a server request each time they do so and this being a holiday weekend, user activity is high.

For the moment, it seems things are pretty much improved, with just the odd message, so we'll just keep our fingers crossed that the situation doesn't deteriorate again.

Please don't post here if you get one isolated "server busy" message. As explained above, it's inevitable that this will happen occasionally. If you are getting them constantly, then that is a different matter altogether and we DO want to hear about it.

Also, if you do get one, be prepared to wait, at least for one minute, as the message suggests, otherwise you may be doing more harm than good.

Is it any better now? It seemed slow for me at first, but now it's loading normally.

I see you have a couple of your images hosted remotely - if those servers are down or slow, that would slow down your board load too. I'd suggest you move them to your file hosting area.

Hmm, I'm really starting to wonder whether anyone is reading my posts... LOL

I've already explained that "busy server" messages will still occur - it's a holiday weekend (probably raining LOL) and lots of people are visiting their boards. PLUS we still have the deleted free boards problem haunting us.

I've been on this board for 5 solid hours and I've received one server busy message in the last four of those hours.

YES, it was awful before that and YES, it was frustrating for everyone (including me I might add), but what's happening now is normal for the existing conditions, as stated above.

Bb Be Slow
THREAD MERGED AT THIS POINT

the Bb server has been quite slow lately(and sometimes unaccessable), and this is unacceptable I'm afraid. Is this problem going to persist or shall we try to find a solution. Best of luck.

What time zone are you in and what part of the world Pickles? (This is BbAdmin/Pamster FYI) I know my ISP was down all day yesterday and my area had some serious routing issues. I know Bb had been slow which is why we purged it of all the old free boards recently. What kind of slowness are you experiencing now? Is it only on your board or here on Support too?

Re: Bb Be Slow
I am on support every single day at varying times and I have not encountered any slowness at all, other than general net slowness occasionally. I know it's the net, because I always test other websites as a comparison, if I think there may be a problem.

If anyone has slowness on their own board, it's likely to be caused by either very large (unoptimised) images or images hosted remotely.

Re: Bb Be Slow
And maybe some people just need to remember that there are several nodes between our server and their ISP's - any of which could be slow or even down for some reason. Sometimes the net itself is extra busy. Please don't automatically assume the slowness is due to us, because it isn't.

Server busy messages do occur sometimes (due to google bots mainly) and of course are exacerbated by people refreshing their screens continuously, because they haven't the patience to wait a minute or two.

Re: Bb Be Slow
Net traffic and google bots probably is contributing to it to a large degree but I did decide to go ahead and mention that I also have experienced the high demand messages a lot myself. I'm on the East Coast. My co-admin is on the West Coast and he's getting it rather regularly also. I haven't been online as much this week but apparently a number of people from our board have gotten the message often enough to mail me asking what's wrong. This afternoon I jotted down the times for our board just for a short period: 1:55pm, 3pm, 4:27pm, and 6:11pm. Don't know that reporting it will make any difference but thought ya'll might like to have some specifics as to how frequently it's occuring.

Re: Bb Be Slow
It doesn't actually matter where you are - if the server is busy, you'll get the "server busy" message, whether you're in England or New Zealand (those being the two places the furthest apart from each other at 12,000 miles).

I have a theory that even though the free boards were recently deleted from the Bb server, people may still be trying to access them (particularly on a holiday weekend) from their stored bookmarks. If this is so, the demand will eventually die down, as people finally realise the boards are gone for good.

I am consistently getting the "I have been getting the High Demand on server, please try back in a few minutes" error no matter what time of day I access the board. I understand that servers get busy, but thought that removing the free boards was to eliminate this problem.
BbAdminMod, please don't get all worked up over us notifying you of an error, that is what this forum is for.
We are simply making you aware of what we as, paying members of Best Boards and our members are seeing when they try to access our boards. We are not trying to make you hostile.
I have avoided commenting on it as long as possible for fear of getting jumped all over for making a comment.
I have had members send me messages wondering if I paid my bill because of this now so I wanted you to be aware of the problems we are encountering at http://bb.bbboy.net/funwithphotos
And it occurs at all hours of the day not just peak ones.

Ok just this minute I got that message and have at least learned to copy my post before hitting submit so as not to lose it...........

I really don't think this is being treated seriously enough - we're paying for a service that's frequently inaccessible. You really need to get your act together and find out what the problem is, and fix it! Right now, you're not living up to your name! I know you can do better than this!

Momsheri, I'm not getting at all "worked up" over this - I have simply been suggesting possible reasons why this is happening. I agree that it has worsened over the last couple of days, but ONLY the last couple of days.

If you read my post above, you would have seen that I think it's possible that users trying to access the deleted free boards could be causing this problem. If so, things should improve on their own, as people realise the free boards really ARE gone. Actually since making that post, I've made some tests and can confirm that trying to access a deleted board DOES constitute a request to the server. Hopefully after the holiday is over, things will quieten down again.

I've left messages for BbBoy about this, but it IS Easter, so he is probably taking a well earned break. I'm sure that he will be investigating all possible reasons for these server busy messages as soon as he logs in again.

Reality CHECK please...
I would like to say here that I appreciate the fact that people were reporting in about this issue, but I do not think that BbAdminMod deserves the heat that some of you have shown. We have been working to resolve the problem and I do not think anyone understands more then WE do about how frustrating it has been to encounter these messages and sometimes losing posts-you can hit the back button in that case. We have been getting it HERE too you know.

You are paying for the service yes indeed, but that in no way justifies the way some of you acted in this thread-consider this the only warning that talking like this again, acting like we do NOT care or are NOT doing something about a problem is conpletely unacceptable and will not be tolerated as it IS considered flaming/trolling of BbStaff. It is ironic that this thread got so out of hand over a holiday weekend. We have families too and our time is just as valuable as yours, please try to remember that. This had only just become an issue (going on for TWO DAYS) and as a information gathering thread this one seriously went awry.

If this begins again we would appreciate just being informed and not patronized as this thread demonstrates some of you felt justified in in doing. This thread is really a TECH issue and never should have been posted in this forum to begin with so in the future please remain calm and explain what you are encountering and what times...The rest is all counter productive garbage that has NO place on this board period.
