Frost Server
I know that zenobias has already called this to your attention, but the problem is not resolved, and the other thread is locked.

For about a week and a half now, we have been having more busy server messages than we have ever had before. Our members are constantly struggling to get on the boards without recieving the message, and when they do, it's usually only a matter of minutes before we have to go through it again. It appears as though there are no specific busy times - the messages are constant.

This is obviously a very frustrating problem to deal with, especially, as zenobias mentioned, we are trying to make the switch to v2, but are looking for member input, and can't get it when we're constantly fighting against the server.

Is this something that is being worked on? I know we have high traffic, but our member number hasn't changed, and these messages are certainly more frequen than they ever have been.

Re: Frost Server
I haven't had a chance to speak with BbBoy about this, but I haven't forgotten about it Leanne Mag. I was on the board after I had posted and was able to get around like I said in the other thread. I will let you know what BbBoy says about things, as in if there is anything we can do about this for your board.

That was me above, I was in a new name I made to test the user name migration which is still not working properly. Sorry I wasn't in this name when I replied. When I speak to BbBoy about this I will let you know either by PM or posting here-are you and zenobias both admins there?

Re: Frost Server
It's been coming and going in weird waves that really seem odd. Half hour when I'm completely unable to get in, an hour of perfect connection, another half hour with only High Demand errors... It just doesn't seem like there is any rhyme or reason behind the times we can or can't get in.

Side note: Since we pay based on usage, we are essentially NOT being charged during times when our members can't get in to post, correct?

Yes, we are both admins of the board.

We should all just post here since our board is down.

Or not. But I see you all here.

Hi! This sucks. Hotmail is down, too. Is there internet terrorism?

Re: Frost Server
That's exactly what I was thinking, molly. I haven't been able to get into any site today. I was thinking it was just my computer, but I couldn't get onto anything at work either.

As another Admin, I was just coming to post the same thing about this board. I have tried to get on multiple times today and received the error every time.

It has now been well over an hour since I have been able to access our board for more than a minute, so any help would be nice.

Re: Frost Server
One of the major causes of high-demand messages is the monthly search engine spidering waves. For the past few days the googlebots have been spidering Best Boards' client boards, and the more threads and activity a board has, the more likely it is to have a high number of googlebots at any given time.

If your board is having problems with this, we recommend disabling guest viewing in high-traffic forums to help cut down your board's contribution to the high-demand issue.

Also, discourage members who are getting the high-demand message to resist the urge to immediately hit the back button in their browser and try again. The high-demand message recommends waiting a few minutes, as this will help lighten the demand during that time period. Another way to look at it is that the "door" into the server is only so wide, and therefore only so many people can go through at one time. If everyone rushes the "door" at the same time, the only thing that happens is everyone gets stuck in the doorway, but no one gets through.

So I guess the whole hotmail thing is why I can't go to JC2 right now, huh?

Re: Frost Server
We are already set to have no guests viewing any part of our forums so the bots/spiders shouldnt be an issue

Re: Frost Server
We have never had guest viewing enabled, so our problem is not a result of spiders.

What is guest viewing? We have a 100% private board.

Campers: Let's just worry about Bbboards on this forum. Thanks.

Re: Frost Server
Even if you don't have guest viewing enabled, it's a server demand issue, not a board demand issue. Remember, many boards share each server, and there are a lot of boards at Best Boards which have high numbers of threads. If they have guest viewing enabled, and have submitted their boards to search engines, then they are experiencing spidering.

While your board might not be contributing to the spidering problem, there's still the live body contribution being made by all boards to consider. It's that time of day when everyone's getting home from school and work and jumping on the computer to see what they missed during the day.

Give it about half an hour or so, and the high-demand messages should drastically decrease. Today is the worst day we've had for spidering this month, and I see by the online information that while I've been in this thread the spiders have started to decrease. They've also started to slow down at my board.

Re: Frost Server
I thought I already made it clear that there is nothing I can do and if there is something we can do I will be able to let you know after I have spoken to BbBoy and I have not been able to talk to him about your situation yet. And no, you are not charged when a high demand page is shown, however continually trying to get in will stress the server and just because you don' t have guest viewing does not mean other boards on the server getting spidered do not have an effect on the entire server. I thought I had made it perfectly clear.

You are welcome to post in the Off Topic Lounge forum, but please do NOT post anymore about this here. This is for tech related issues and I understand missing your board, but this forum is not the place to be discussing that-the original post was talking about a thread I had marked as resolved-just because it says resolved doesn't mean it is-that is the edited text we have for 'Locked' so please don't misunderstand what it means.

I will get back to three of you, Alexisss, Leanne_Mag & zenobias by PM when I have some new information for you. I'm sorry nothing can be done at the moment-if it could it would have already. We are having some high activity from spiders today so please try to understand that a spider viewing any page is the same as a person loading one.
