Please note that if you need to change your email address, you can use the Email Changer. This will let you change your registered email address immediately, as long as you have access to your old and new email accounts. :smile:

ok , I thought I didnt have access to my old email account , but subsequently found out I did , so I used the email changer .....
nothing happened so I closed down the old email account ,
I am still without the service I require .

You can add credit to your board by enabling the Donations feature in your boards Edit Board Settings screen and then using that to add credit. You can disable it once your board is upgraded :smile:

Can I whisper you mine? I emailed a while back and nothing has happened. I stopped using my board for a while since I was unable to mess with it for a while but then I paid for it and couldn't remember my admin password to change some things so I wanted to just reset it...so I tried the email form and it wouldn't work cause apparantly it was under my old email address. So I emailed and got no replies. Just wondering if you could help me.

Thanks but my problem is not with Lumberton - it is with the first user name I tried to set up a couple of months ago. After I received the initial password and tried to log in, something like no user name or incorrect password appeared. I've since tried to change the password but I never receive an reply. Could the email address you have for me be incorrect? It should be the same as you have on file for Lumberton.

It depends if the board has Auto-Member On Dynamic Registration enabled or not. Some Admins require new members to post first before they are added to their boards memberlist, and some Admins allow new members to be added to their boards memberlist as soon as they register :smile:

How will I know that you have my correct email addy? It said that it sent a confirmation email to my OLD addy (I don't have access to that anymore)

Hi luvtkinPA,

She should be able to use the "change email" option as long as she can still access the old email account, then retrieve her password when it's changed. If she doesn't have access to the old email address there isn't anything we can really do because we require some form of identity verification to make changes like those.

If you can't access the old email there really isn't anything we can do because we have to have some form of verification. I'm pretty sure that Lycos doesn't delete your email account permanently so you can go reactivate it and then use the change email link to update the email address. :smile:

Pamster - In the past Nick has done things to reset accounts. I know, for example, I had a member who forgot his password and no longer had access to his old e-mail account, yet Nick was able to change the e-mail address.

As a moderator of the board Takhisis posts to, I'll vouch for her identity, if that helps any.

I am having the same problem. My old email address is obsolete and that email service was eliminated. I attempted to use the change email function, but I cannot receive the confirmation email at my old address. So I assume nothing was changed.

What is recommended at this point?

If you can't access the old email there really isn't anything we can do because we have to have some form of verification. I'm sorry but that is just the way things are set up. We can't change emails without something to verify the person asking for the email change is really the owner of the username. That is for everyone's protection. :smile:

Doesn't this happen fairly often? A lot of email services I've used before have gone out of business pretty suddenly, as this one did. Its a volatile world out there in cyberland.

I haven't posted on the board to which I was a member in years, and I wanted to do so today, but I cannot for the life of me remember what my password was back then.

I no longer have the email address that I did at that time either, so the options for retrieving my password and changing my email addresses have been unhelpful. Everything keeps wanting to go to the email address that I no longer have access to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would need to know the old address and the username. IF the email was private I will change it for you to a new email you have access to. If you had it public there isn't anything I can do because we require verification for email changes.

I also need the name since you didn't leave it in your post. If it's private I'll take care of this for you, but like I said if it's public there isn't any way for you to verify that you are the owner of the username and you'll need to re-register a new name. I can transfer the post count if it comes to that I will gladly do it for you Danielle. :smile:

I am having problems changing my email addr. I do not have access to the old email addr and I am wanting to change to a new addr for my newsletters. They must be going to the old one and when I tried to change addr it states that a confirmation is going to the old addr. You should be good on this name and the other one akihn you made on that email address that you never got to post with. Enable username swapping and you can switch between them. If you need anything else just let us know. :smile:

I have a user who is unable to change his e-mail address himself, because the old e-mail address no longer exists at all. In the past, I've been able to get this fixed by posting here, and I hope that's still true.

I did it---created some user names for myself then incorrectly entered my email address. The names are healnpd and Healing_NPD. How do I 'whisper' you the correct email?

Send a PM to me and I can get that fixed for you jebel subh1. That's the surest way to make sure it stays private because if you mess the whisper code up somehow (which happens from time to time) it shows the entire post to the world and you can't edit here on the Support board. So drop a fast line with the names and the email you need and I will take care of it for you. :smile:

I have a user who is unable to change her e-mail address on her own because she no longer has access to her old e-mail account. There's a pretty good chance I'll have more of these coming, too, since we're looking to upgrade - and an upgrade to v2 sends an e-mail to all users asking for permission to upgrade their account. Details of this particular user's information is whispered below, and I'll pop back in as more come to light.

It does work but perhaps it gets blocked from some domains, we can't help that. I have a member who has lost both their password and changed their e-mail address and they would like to have access to their old posts. Is their a way to rediscover or change a members password and assign them a new email address in order to allow them access to their past posts?

I imagine verifying their identity is the big challenge here.

Whisper the old password. One that they this it could have been, if they absolutely don't remember, they can whisper the username's email and that's it, if they can't come up with both things they are pretty much out of luck. I wish there was more I could do, but my hands are tied.

The root of their problem is that they fear their user name is no longer anonymous. Well, I was thinking the member's need for privacy could be solved by replacing their original user name with a new one. From the perspective of preserving the archives, this is preferable to delating all their old posts.

I'm not sure if this is possible. FAQ didn't seem to cover it anyway. Assuming the member can prove their identity, is it possible to assign them a new user name and have it become the sole public identifier on all of their old posts?

Unfortunately we can't rename the old name, it'd involve manually editing every one of their old posts, so it won't be possible. They can make a new username, but there's not any way to rename the old account. I wish there was John, but it's just too complicated a thing to accomplish in our network at this time.
