Custom Bb Codes
I'm trying to post YouTube clips within a thread, as I've seen done on other message boards (the clip itself, not the link). One board I saw just uses a "[yt]" code without having to embed the video, and I was wondering if I can custom set it on my board so that I can use the same tags.

It probably can't be done, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.:smile:

Re: Custom Bb Codes
Maybe possible by something like this if you set it up in the Edit Custom BbCodes in the admin center:

Code:

[yt] -> <embed src="

and:

[/yt] -> "></embed>

it'll be a lot more actual HTML than that, but you'd then be able to use:

[yt]http://whatever.com/video.mpeg[/yt]

Re: Custom Bb Codes
Would you mind checking out the html I added in the custom Bb codes section? All I'm getting with a test post is a blank white box with the video link next to it. I guess I need to make some subtle changes to the code, but I'm not sure which section.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Re: Custom Bb Codes
If you have a example I can go look a I will gladly take a look, but I can't post so if you can leave a link to an example I'll go see what I can figure out about it and why it might not be working. :smile:

Re: Custom Bb Codes
Ok I think we have it figured out now, this is the one for the opening code:

Code:

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/

Then the closing [/yt]:

Code:

" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed>

I tested it on the test sample board and it does work. Thanks to BbBoy that is. :wink: He's the one who figured it out. :smile:

Re: Custom Bb Codes
I forgot to mention that this was the only way to make it work for some reason. Also it's not for the entire URL, this code above is for just the part of the URL that identifies the individual videos, so for a url just take it after the "=" sign and it should work. That's all you need and you should be all set PowerLady. :smile:

Re: Custom Bb Codes
I copied and pasted each section of code from your post after deleting the code I already had in there, and followed the instructions to the letter (or so I thought), but it's still not working for me. I'm trying to figure out what it is I'm doing wrong this time. When I attempted to embed a video in a post with just the one part of the URL nothing happened - I just got a blank space. Not even a blank box showed up this time.

Now it's really frustrating since you said it worked fine when you tried it. Sorry to be such a nuisance.:smile:

Re: Custom Bb Codes
There was a space there after the end of the opening of the code for the yt so I fixed it for you and edited that post it should be working now. Let me know if you need anything else PowerLady. :smile: Glad to have been able to help. :smile:
