Well,
I received another [may18 2002] member in the member list.
But instead of reporting it every day to you guys,I think I'm just going to let it stay there.
It's a pain in the neck for you to have to keep checking it.
I tried to find out who it is or where it came from by clicking the pm,but there is no name there.

So,I'll just let it alone.

I thought it may be a new member trying to join,as my good friend tried to join 3 times now,and she still isn't able to.
I think it may be a problem on her end,since others have had no problem.
But I don't know what to think.

I do see guests IP numbers come when they are checking the board out,
but other than that,it just makes more work for you to go in and delete it.

So,don't worry about it.
It's cool...

I'm sure it's no trouble for BbBoy to delete them for you, but I bet he'd prefer knowing what causes it and stopping it happening! :smile:

He doesn't usually come in on a Sunday, but he'll fix it on Monday. :smile:

It seems to show up whenever a guest comes in.
I am noticing that.
There were 2 guests a couple of nights ago,and a guest last night.
?

I think it's more likely to happen when someone makes an abortive attempt to register at your board. BbBoy might want to look into this, as it seems to be happening to other boards besides yours. :smile:

Ok.No problem...
I now have 3 of these.
2 of these ghosts joined today
at about the same time 2 members joined.

Also
I have made the 2 new members mods as 1 is my brother and 1 is his friend.
But only his friend shows the MOD id under her name.
His won't show.
I went in and checked him as a mod 3 times and even left the board.
I came back and he is still showing as a newbie.
hmmm.....

You could perhaps be seeing a cached page - did you make both of them mods at the same time (in the same update)?

Yes.On the same day,around the same time.
I did refresh the cache and I also deleted him and had him reregister.
He did,and the same thing happened.

I now have 5 invisible members.
lol
It certainly has to do with guests and members signing up.

Both your new members are showing up as mods, so I think it must be that you're seeing a cached page. :smile:

Try a hard refresh (Shift + Ctrl + Refresh), empty your browser cache, reboot your computer and try again. :smile:

Ok.

Ummm..I just locked myself out of my own board due to the stupidness of checking the box of not allowing people who are using freemail.
I can't get it now.

Oh,I need a drink badly.

Can you somehow uncheck the freemail box?

Ok, you should be OK now. :smile:

Something else I meant to say before - any changes you make to your board will take 3 minutes or so before they're visible. That might be why you thought that moderator wasn't updated. :smile:

The "phantom" members are people who are trying to register at your board and for some reason, not succeeding. Hopefully we'll get that glitch fixed soon. :smile:

Perhaps it might be an idea if you log out and register a new ID at your board and see if you can spot what difficulty people could be having. :smile:

Ok.I will try that.
I just saw your post there.
But that is what my brother was doing when he was here.
He wanted to join the board,and I sat next to him showing him what to do.We both sat here and watched what happens when he joins.

He registered
Went to his email
got his pw
went back to the board
logged in
and posted.After a couple of posts,he logged out and I logged back in.
I set the mod status
and it shows in the user forum (also)enhanced user forum,but not in the actual posts.
When he left for home,I told him to try on his pc tomorrow.

After he joined,another invisible member showed up.
I checked the member list after he joined.

He didn't receive a welcome message though.

Anyway,
I clicked shift/control & refresh...
And I rebooted the computer.
I came back in and saw I was able to get in the board(thanks to you!)but he is still showing newbie.

Regarding me registering again to see what happens,I can't use my same email to do that,right?

Hmm, I'm not sure what's happening here... He definitely is showing as a mod, but equally definitely his posts have him showing as a newbie!

Could you get him to post again and give us a link to his new post?

Also try deleting all the posts he made with his previous username. :smile:

Not true.
Found one I haven't used in 8 months.
Got the pw email
Got the welcome email but it doesn't have a link to the board in it.
Went in posted,switched to me,made my other me mod
waited
didn't work
chair got stuck on plastic thingy on floor
I fell to the ground

Now I am going to delete the other me and go to bed.
Maybe tomorrow it'll be better.

Don't worry about re-registering - I've nailed down the problem that causes "phantom" members to appear. It's been documented now and I'm sure it will be an easy matter for BbBoy to fix asap. :smile:

That actually only applies to anything you set in the User CP - global user settings.

What's the username of the user? :smile:

Are you sure you made him a mod of all the forums, and not just one? :smile:

Hi there,

Got some sleep and can communicate normally now.

I made him a mod of 5 forums.
But today I deleted him totally and I deleted my test member I made last night.
I deleted his posts and my test member.(susan)
I will dwell on one thing at a time.
I'm not sure my welcome message and email message is correct.
Maybe that is causing people to not be able to enter correctly.

We'll see if we can solve the invisible members first,as I'm throwing all this at you guys too fast.

I can think more clearly if I don't have 3 or 4 problems at once.

So I'll wait to see what is going on in the member list first.....

people online in the last 15 minutes - 0 members, 0 anon and 0 guests. (Most ever was 129 at 22:49:41 Fri Oct 4 2002)
