Server backups ( 03:56:57 WedMar 20 2002 )

Quick one before I go noddy blinkums.......

In the event of a server crash or forum hack,is the database backed up so that if need be the forum can be restored to its full glory......

In the admin options there is an option for me to backup my board.

Is this just for my board settings??

Do you have the ability to completely restore my forum if there is a crash at the server end ??

The reason I am asking is that a friend of mine has a rather popular and busy forum (600 plus members) on asp-dev and is thinking of moving here and I would like to know about what I am getting him into.

Don't get me wrong I have allready pretty much talked him into coming here but I would like to be able to answer this question....

Re: Server backups ( 08:15:35 WedMar 20 2002 )

Let me explain the backup procedures.

1) Admins can download a backup of their board and store it on their hard drive. They can re-upload the backup file at any time to restore the board.

2) Admins can backup their board at the click of a button "Server-Side Backups", and restore it again at another click. This one's stored here on the server, so they don't have to download anything.

3) We do daily, weekly, and monthly backups here on the server.

4) We also do daily, weekly, and monthly backups which are sent to a completely different server, in the event that our hard drive blows up or something. Which it won't, but you can never be too careful.

5) Users can download a backup of their personal settings, sigs etc, and re-upload it at any time to restore it.

Board backups include pretty much everything - forums, posts, settings, templates, logs...
