Quick Jump Menus ( 03:44:11 SatOct 26 2002 )

Board Plan: ie5

Hi, I noticed there are quick jump boxes but only in the main forums. How do I make them go into the threads as well? Like have them in every page?:ohwell:
Otherwise they have to scroll up and click on the links up on top of page.

Cheers
Briecie

Hi briecie,

no not currently, but I believe this idea is already on our To Do list as a future enhancement. You can however add

Code:

<BbBoard="headspace">

In the footer and it will show those top board, thread and forum links on the bottom as well as on top.

Thanks for reply. I will wait for the new enhancement eagerly!!

But I have another question here.

I can't remember where I read it but is it possible that when people register at my board, their reply with password and stuff has our name on the heading instead of bb board? I am on the variable plan.
Also, I am wondering why there are double registrations for new members everythime. They always seem to have registered twice. Could it be they think they haven't submitted and they do it again? Or perhaps they are confused as they registered at our board and got a bb board reply so they deleted it and then realised it is our forum and went back to re-register?
That's why I am hoping that the variable plan allows the reply to have the heading of our board so they know it is from our board:tongue:
Please let me know:biggrin:

Cheers
Briecie

Yes, you can get members to register at your board and be added directly to your userlist upon doing so. They will also see your board's template when they register.

Go to your Admin Center >> Edit Board Settings and right at the top of the page you'll see General Setttings. Check all three of the boxes there.

If you could post a list of the members who are duplicated, we'll delete them for you. You can whisper them if you like. We're not sure why this is happening, but most likely they are hitting the submit button twice when registering.

Thanks for fast reply!!
I have checked the 3 settings which is the dynamic profile, auto profile and err..can't remember the 3rd one. But they are ones you meant, right?

The double ups are:

almeyda twice
argento twice
Joey75 three times
esperanza twice
solymar twice
lottie twice

Maybe if a line that says please only click submit ONCE would help stop this problem so then they won't click twice.

There is something in the next release that will prevent people from being able to make these duplicate usernames like that by hitting submit more then once. We'll see if BbBoy can't remove those for you.

You have a maximum allowance of 150KB set for your file attachment feature. Possibly if your members are trying to attach photos, they are larger than this, so that would be why it wouldn't work. You could increase the file size limitation, but then, you would use up your total allowance of 1MB more quickly. That's a decision you'll have to make I guess.

I just noticed your reference to personal pics being enabled. The file attachment feature can't be used for personal pics, only for attaching images in actual posts.

You mean the file attachment takes up my 1 mb allowance? What happens when the 1 mb is used up, does those photos then disappear?
As time goes, there are bound to be heaps of file attachments, what do I do then? Will I be charged for it?
Don't really understand how this works.
I thought the 1 mb allowance was for me to put pictures in like icons etc. for members to use and not for file attachments.
Hope you can explain more:tongue:

Hi briecie,

File Hosting is for board images and pics and things-but only Fixed and Variable boards have access to that feature, which is one MB a space. File Attachment space is the same for free boards as it is for Fixed and Variable ones. Each board has one MB of file attachment space. Attached files cannot be linked to-they are merely on replies/threads for members to download individually. It is a file sharing type of feature and to prevent potential abuse we limit it to one MB per board.

When a board fills that MB up-the feature is not active until the Admins remove enough attachments from previous threads so that space is freed up allowing for new attachments to be shared. It is the Admin's responsibility to monitor the attachment space they use in the Admin Center-'View Attachments' screen. That help answer your questions briecie?

Thanx ever so much for your help. You are wonderful and helpful:biggrin:
If we use the bbcode feature of Image and paste the image copied from another site onto the post, will that use up my 1 mb allowance? It is not file attachment but just copy an image url from another site and put into the bb code image box that pops up on the post so everyone can see without logging in.

Also, I read about people hosting the board with their own servers, how does that work? Will there be a restictions on file attachments then if hosted with own servers?

Cheers

You're very welcome briecie. No this:

That will not take away from your one MB of File Attachment space-that is what we call remote linking. I think that is what you mean about hosting boards on their servers-its hosting images on their own webspace that is able to allow for remote linking.

Re: Quick Jump Menus ( 12:40:53 SunNov 3 2002 )

lol..here I am again!!

I have uploaded some icons and emoticons into my file hosting in my board. I tried adding the emoticon but it came out as a x in a box. hmm what did I do wrong? I pasted the url on the submit box. It is hosted by bb board.
Also, how do I let the members see the icons? is there like a page for them to choose the icons and then copy the url to paste into their User panel settings?
Sorry again for so many questions:biggrin:
But you are so wonderful, always helping me understand. I very much appreciate all your help. Once I become an expert, I won't need to be such a nuisance!!

Hi Briecie,

I went ahead and did a couple of things-made your pic logo a embedded link with alt text saying what the text link said. But I did not see anyred x's in the emoticons screen-was there some in particular that gave you a red x?

Don't worry about having questions Briecie, that is what makes this board thrive. Having people who need help and getting that help quickly and effectively. One thing you can try just as a first step before posting a thread is to use the Board Search here-you could search just the Tech Support, Suggestions & Bug Reports and Customization forums to see if whatever you need help with was ever discussed before.

Now when you say icons for users-are you talking about personal pics for them to use? If so you can make a sticky thread in one forum and display them all-people can right click on the images and then copy the URL to put in their User CP for use as a personal avatar. Is that what you're looking for? If so you can use the BbCode for image display in a thread you make for the purpose of sharing those images.

Thanks again.

Yes, I deleted that x in a box from the edit emoticons cos it didn't show up. What I was trying to do was add new emoticons in the list but it didn't show up so I deleted it.

I'll try the sticky thread with the icons.

Oh OH here comes Briecie again:rolleyes:

I was trying to move a thread to another forum and it asks me the forum no. Hmmm Ican't see any forum no. so does it mean I just count the oder of the forum on my own? Like if there is 8 in a row and it happens to be no7, then that forum is forum no. 7:ohwell:

Also I would love to add a few emoticons of my own into our emoticons selection but when I go to the edit emoticons and paste the url on the emoticons page, it always seem to come out as a x in a bos so I deleted them. Errr...how do you do it correctly?

Cheers

Re: Quick Jump Menus ( 01:38:12 FriNov 8 2002 )

You were trying to move a thread to another board, right? In that case you DO need the forum number. If you look at the browser address at the top, it will tell you the forum number of whatever forum you happen to be in - like here for instance, the forum number is 1.

So, you need to get the forum number from the board you're wanting to move the thread(s) to and then enter that number when you actually do the move.

It sounds as though the emoticons you were trying to add were either on your own computer or on a web host that was down. Could you post an example URL here and we can tell you if that is the problem.

Wow, you are so fast replying!! I went back to my board and came back wanting to ask another question and a reply is here already...you are magnificient!!

Thanx about the forum no. I see it now. And the emoticons were uploaded from my computer to my file hosting here but I went and took them out since it didn't work so as not to take up space in my 1 mb. I'll put one back in when I go home and post here the url.

But I wanted to know if there is a feature for the chat room to let members know that there are people chatting in there or there are people in the chat room...like "3 members in chat session" etc. You know what I mean. So that they will go in there when they notice that there is someone in there.
But I am so happy the jump menus are in!!!!:thumb:

Cheers
Briecie
