Re: HTML & Making Custom BbCodes ( 16:53:11 SunMar 24 2002 )

Quick question regarding HTML? Why can't regular uses use HTML.. and will this ever change? I know a lot of my posters would like to use HTML but I don't necessarily want them to be moderators...

Thanks

I do believe it is to help make BB more secure. It is a purposeful oversight and I don't think BbBoy has plans on changing that. But we are going to add some new BbCodes in a future release and you can always make them too for people on your board to use:

Ok, if you could help me with this one... A lot of times, people will post "Quizzes" etc.. from the internet and the results always come in a <a> etc... html code to post their results.

How would I do custom bbcode for that?

Thanks and i'm glad about the security issue if that is the reason for no HTML.

Sure! I'll be glad to help Indica Rose. I have to step away from the computer for a moment but if you go over that page I left a link to here you can read what BbBoy put in the tutorial and when I get back I will see if I can't help create one to do what you want if you haven't figured it out by then...I split the topic because I think this is a good one to be on its on. You can go in and put your siggy back in the top box Indica Rose, I wasn't able to preserve it AND edit for some reason...

Ok, reread what you said above and if you have the code they need-like the HTML part goes on the right and then you make it a BbCode by using the brackets:

Code:

[IMG]http://www.imageurl.com[/IMG]

Do you know what HTML code they want to use-specifically what Tags?

I'm not sure what <a> tag means to give it a title, but I think I get the gist of how to do custom codes.

No problem on splitting the post. I probably should have posted a new subject anyway.

Thanks Pamster :smile:

Ok, here's one code I want to use:

<TABLE BORDER=0><TR><TD>
<A HREF="http://blog.ravenblack.net/quiz/flavour.pl"><IMG BORDER=0 ALIGN="LEFT" WIDTH=100 HEIGHT=100 SRC="http://blog.ravenblack.net/quiz/flavour/8.png" ALT="What Flavour Are You? I tashte like Alcohol." /></A>I tashte like <B>Alcohol</B>.<BR /><BR />
Heh. Heh. I taste like beer. I like beer. Buy me a beer. I'm not drunk, I can drink plenty without... What was I saying? Beer. <A HREF="http://blog.ravenblack.net/quiz/flavour.pl">What Flavour Are You?</A>
</TD></TR></TABLE>

Hate to say it but I think BbBoy will have to help on that Indica-I am not sure how to go about making a 'specific table' appear using a BbCode to call it up-is that what you're looking to do? Make that code-like that be it's own BbCode? Because if that is what you want to do I don't know how we would go about it. I am sure BbBoy wil though and perhaps a few FAQs can be added about Custom BbCodes as a result of this topic. :wink:

Not a problem at all :smile: Thank you and I will wait for his reply.

I believe the other code that I wanted to post started with the <a> code...

K, if you just want the whole:

Code:

Beer. <A HREF="http://blog.ravenblack.net/quiz/flavour.pl">What Flavour Are You?</A>
</TD></TR></TABLE>

in there to be put in in one go, you can create a custom BbCode, with whatever you want to use to call it (like [quiz]) in the left-hand box, and the HTML in the right-hand box. You can just copy and paste the whole of that HTML in there, if you want it exactly the same each time. :smile:

If you want your users to be able to change the "I like beer" bit, you'd create 2 BbCodes ([quiz] and [/quiz]?), the first with HTML:

Code:

<TABLE BORDER=0><TR><TD>
<A HREF="http://blog.ravenblack.net/quiz/flavour.pl"><IMG BORDER=0 ALIGN="LEFT" WIDTH=100 HEIGHT=100 SRC="http://blog.ravenblack.net/quiz/flavour/8.png" ALT="What Flavour Are You? I tashte like Alcohol." /></A>I tashte like <B>Alcohol</B>.<BR /><BR />

and the second with:
Code:

</TD></TR></TABLE>

:smile: If you just want members to be able to post tables, you can create the needed BbCodes (Maybe [table] [tr] [td] etc?) and put in the HTML that goes along with them. Like:

[table] -> <table>
[tr] -> <tr>
[td] -> <td>
[/td] -> </td>
etc.

:smile:
