How do I set it up so that my members receive email notifications for PM's and posts on threads?

They have to do it for themselves, Bee - by clicking the Notify button on the threads they're interested in. They can't be notified by email for PM's though.

Do you think that for a future update that would be possible?

Would what be possible? PM notification by email? Users already get popup notification of those - several times if they enable "persistent" in their User Preferences.

I don't think there is really a call for a email notice of PM's Bee. I think some people get touchy about what is sent to their email addresses as it is and we definitely don't want to do anything that would be something that might upset members. They get Newsletters emailed to them if they are subscribed to those and they get email if they have their email public-anyone can email them. Do you think some members of yours are missing your PM's or something?

well, on other boards that I, and my other members, frequent, you get an email notice, so that you remember to come back to the board to check your PM's. Otherwise, it's kinda hard to PM a person if they've been MIA or something...since they won't know they have a PM until they visit anyway.

I see what you mean...Ok, tomorrow I will run it by BbBoy and see if this is something we might consider adding to the To DO list.

THANK YOU!!!! Seriously, I've had tons of requests for email nots for PM's, and for new posts to threads they've posted on - without having to subscribe manually to each thread.

We will see if we can't do something about that Bee. It would be optional of course, but you never know. BbBoy is one fantastic programmer so it is a matter of how much people would want it. If this is added I will post the link here so you can let your member know and they can rate it a 5 and hoepfully others will to so it gets on the development schedule.

I'm just wondering whether it can actually be done at all. PM's are global, so which board would carry the cost of the bandwidth, if the users were members of several boards?

It could get quite complicated, and I don't think it would really be fair for us to bear the cost for all of them either. Multiplied over 10,000 boards (and rising) the cost of emails for every PM sent would come to quite a bit.

In the next release, there'll be a option for admins to disable both thread subscription and "Send to Friend", because we've been requested to do so by admins concerned about the extra cost of bandwidth for emails, so it's an issue that has to be considered.

Well, if it works it works  I'd really appreciate it, as would my members. And of course it should be optional - but if it isn't an option, so be it!
