Re: Server Back Up Ques. ( 03:49:01 TueJul 1 2003 )

There is NO problem to fix.

However as mentioned above, we plan to log ALL the server side backup actions, so that arguments of the sort we've seen here today can't occur again.

I will also reiterate (yet again) that having too many admins on a board can and does cause problems - which is why we don't recommend it. Having assistant admins, with clearly defined areas of responsibility, is a much better way of managing a board, which is why we gave you this feature.

Server-Side Backup Accountability ( 20:04:51 MonJun 30 2003 )

Hello, twice in the last week or so all of our server side backups have diappeared. BB claims one of our Admins did it, and the Admins claim they didn't. To resolve this issue, and hold accountable both the board Admins and the BB system, could we see an activity log for all Server Side backups and deletions on that page? That means if there are backups, we see who created them and when. If there are not, we see who deleted them and when. Thanks.

I did a "Search Full Log" and saw no entry for deleting any backups. Should that event get logged?

There is also no log of us just creating a backup when we realized they were gone, yet again.

Please see my reply above.

No, those actions will be added to the short (admin) log, where all the other (searchable) admin actions are listed.

We would suggest that when using the backup feature you take special care not to accidentally click on the "Delete All Backups" button, which is next to the "Backup" button. If you are in too much of a hurry, it's possible for the focus of the mouse to slip. Bear in mind also that clicking that button will delete all backups older than one week, but newer backups will remain intact.

Unless something really serious has happened, it's not often that anyone would want to restore to a point a whole week (or more) ago. Consequently, it's not necessary to retain "ten backups" as someone has suggested - ten just happens to be the maximum allowable number.
