PM notification working unreliably ( 18:20:04 MonOct 27 2003 )

Hi!

PM notification is working unrealiably on my board. It sometimes will notify you that you have a new PM in your Inbox, but most of the time, it does not.

This is happening to everyone on the board and has been going on for a few days now.

For now, we have simply posted an announcement asking all of our members to check their PM Inbox regularly.

Thanks!

I don't know why they aren't working for anyone. I just sent this name a PM from your board as BbAdmin and I got the New PM pop up right away. Do you have a on board image set? If so I think the image is no longer there or something since I didn't see one. Only the pop up alert appeared.

Well now I see it in the edit images area, but it did not come up when I was there as Pamster or if it did it was too small to notice. You might want to stop using the 'Old Bar Style' and see if that doesn't help. That goes from way back when we first began and might be part of why thye don't work properly for you. I don't know that for sure, but I wanted to suggest it to you so if you wanted to you could try it without that enabled and see if there was any difference.

I will change my settings and stop using "Old bar style" ... (gotta go figure out what that is...)

But.... we are not always getting the pop-up notification either.

I had a PM this morning and did not ever get the pop-up "you have a new PM" notification and I was in and out of various forums for some time.

Oh, and... making the problem even harder to solve... some people are not having problems, others are...

Hmmm.... I'll go find out what settings the members are using for PM notification and see if there's any correlation...

I am going to go uncheck the old bar style for you and send a test PM in two minutes.

Ok that did it for me, I see the new PM image there now and the pop up appeared as it should. Did you get the PM alerts?

I just replied to you, but I didn't get the PM alert until I came over here to the support forums. Hmmmm.....

And, there's no longer a link to my PM inbox where it says "Welcome dianimal... User CP... Admin... Chat" Does that have to do with the "Old Style" bar?

Yes that is what the Old Bar Style was set up as. If you didn't get any alert even with that off it must be something else. What browser and version do you use dianmial?

Hi dianimal  Sometimes it might take up to fifteen minutes for a PM notice to appear.

I just sent this name a PM and I got the New PM pop up right away at your board

It seems like it's something more than just "not being patient"....

But I will have someone send me a test PM and wait longer.

I don't understand why you would get them here and not there. I got them on both boards and haven't run into any trouble like this. I am going to send one to you, log in as you and see if I get a new PM notice on your board when I am there. I will report what happens in a few minutes.

I got it as you can see from the screenshot below-I hit cancel in case you were on so that you might get the alert next time. I think this is a browser issue unfortunately dianimal. I cannot reproduce this in all the testing I've done today on it and you can see it is trying to send you an alert-but something isn't letting it through. I use IE 5.5 because I had some toruble when I used IE 6. I don't know if the other members on your board use IE 6 or not, but I would definitely ask around and see if there is some pattern to this. :ohwell:

It's a good idea to tell people to check their PM inbox a lot, dianimal. Sometimes if they don't check their inbox then an important message could be sitting that wouldn't be seen.
Well, I always get pop-up notification when I have a new PM. It only didn't work once, but otherwise I always get notified at any board. I recently got a PM with a pop-up notify. It's very useful. You're sure that you don't have it disabled, right? Obviously it's enabled, but it's always good to make sure.
