Borders in category bar ( 06:17:42 SatApr 20 2002 )

Hi Chris & Pam

I've tried everything I can think of to get a 3D effect with border attributes in my category bar (using CSS), but can't seem to manage it.

I've disabled the EC box that defines it and still nothing.

Is it because I have listed special border attributes in the EC table area? I tried deleting those as well, so that there would be no borders, but all that happened was I had "no borders" :lol:

I've probably spent a couple of hours playing with this and I'm finding that any area controlled by the EC table settings just won't "take" a CSS definition that affects table borders - maybe I need to delete something else as well?

Clear as mud? :lol:

P.S. I filled in my board url and browser version but they're not showing - I *know* I did! :lol:

Hmm, I'm not sure if it's possible to get a 3D effect around just the one cell of a table, it might need to be the whole table, or nothing.. But, have you tried something like:

Code:

.forumlistcat {border-style:outset;}

.. :smile: For the whole table, it'd be something like:

Code:

.forumlisttable {border-style:outset;}

Well, for .forumlistcat, I used:

Code:

{border-top: 4px ridge #e0e0ff;
border-right: 4px ridge #e0e0ff;
border-bottom: 4px ridge #e0e0ff;
border-left: 4px ridge #e0e0ff;}

in addition to the color and text-align attributes I already had in there, but absolutely nothing happens.

Just a thought - I notice that classes are being given to table and tr tags - is that OK? I seem to remember reading somewhere that some browsers don't like it. Anyway for some reason, I got the impression classes could only be applied to td tags.

Board Plan: IE6

Testing custom input boxes ?

I've filled both in - are they hidden perhaps?

Well, they're here this time - I could have sworn I put em before.... :ohwell:

http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/html3/tablerows.html , http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/html3/tablecells.html , http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/html3/tables.html - all list "class" as valid. :smile: (Along with loads of other tags, not just table-specific ones)

Anyway, if it doesn't work like yo had it, then I guess it's not possible to specify a certain border style around a single cell with CSS...

OK, OK :lol:

I've just remembered where I saw that stuff - it was one of those html validators. I think they add a whole lot of errors to your pages, just to convince you that you really need to buy something from them! :lol:

Hmm, I dunno - I just applied those borders to just one cell in a table and it worked ok. Then I did the same thing to the table row instead and it didn't work. forumlistcat is a table row class.... just thinking aloud here :wink:

I'll keep trying. :smile:

Now, here's the thing: I can make borders on tables and cells with CSS, but not table rows!

This explains why earlier I couldn't put borders around the quoted text, whispers, spoilers etc - they are all table row classes.

Weird eh? And this is not just here, I tested it outside BB and the same holds true - the tr class in general won't take border attributes - color and background yes, but not border attributes.

Would it be possible (some time in the future) for you to transfer all those tr classes to td classes?
