Backup Question ( 00:08:46 ThuFeb 5 2004 )

Ok I know this may seem like a dumb question but what is the difference between a backup and a server-side back up?And should I do both?

Re: Backup Question ( 00:43:07 ThuFeb 5 2004 )

That depends. A 'Download Backup' is a copy you store on your computer-it will only have the information, posts, settings etc. that existed at the time you downloaded the backup. It's encrypted so you would need to save it somewhere you can find it easily. A serverside backup is one that is stored here on our servers. It too would only have the information that existed at the moment you made it. We do our own backups on a routine of daily, weekly and monthly-each is overwritten when the next backup cycle happens so we can't restore say from monday-because the monday backup was overwritten with tuesday's and then tuesdays will be overwritten when the backups are made for today.

So there are like three types of backups here. We've given admins the power to back up their own boards so that say you make a change you didn't like the way it came out-if you made a serverside backup before you submitted the changes to the board then you can easily restore it back to how it was before the changes were made.

Hope that made sense.
