Restoring from Backup? ( 00:21:01 TueMay 14 2002 )

I got a new board that I planned on using to test things on, so I downloaded a back up to a disk of my original board. How do I restore that back up onto the new board? I thought you just pushed restore, but apparently that doesn't do it  Thanks!

If you mean you wanted to upload a restore file from another board it won't work yet-I say yet because we are working on a 'Theme Export' system in which you will be able to easily trade off themes and set ups between board. Is that what you meant Bee?

Hmm..I'm not sure. Let me explain what I *tried* to do. I went to my board - and downloaded a backup onto a disk. Then I went to my new bb board and tried to restore that backup onto *that* board - basically trying to copy my original board onto another board so that I could test different things on it before doing it to my *real* board. Does this make sense?

Yup-and it won't work for you yet-when we have the update for the EC block feature that will allow you to do that all but posts and such. But at the moment you'd have to sit with both boards open and copy setting over. Should be a month and a half or so and we'll have the ability to do settinng/theme switches between boards. Were you trying to restore posts too or just the look and style of the board and emoticons and such?

No, I don't care about the posts, I just wanted the basic set up of the board, looks, style, emoticons, etc.

Hi Bee

I've found that if your board is customised using the Easy Customisation only and not using CSS, you can actually export the EC block to another board.

(1) Go to the Admin Center >> Easy Customisation of the board you wish to copy from.

(2) At the bottom of the page you will see a button which says "Create EC Block" - click on this and a new window will open.

(3) Select all the text in the little box and copy it to your Windows clipboard (CTRL + C).

(4) Go to the Admin Center >> Easy Customisation of the board you wish to copy to.

(5) Paste the stuff you copied into the little box on the bottom right just above where it says "Parse Block" (CTRL + V) and press the parse button.

(6) All the new colors etc will now be on the page. If it looks OK, then you can press "Submit" - it won't work unless you do that.

Have a bit of a play with this on a test board - NOT a real board! (You can copy from a real board of course.)

Yes. In fact, you'll have to be the admin of both boards. The exporter and importers will both be in the admin centres.

Absolutely phantom! We wouldn't want unauthorized access to your or anyone's themes being done without permission and like BbBoy said if it is done with the person being a Admin on Both the exporting board and the one importing the theme then we won't run into that. Sorry if I scared you.
